RATING: R
LENGTH: 1 hour 51 minutes
Movie Review Mom GRADE: C
IN A NUTSHELL:
The story is about Adam (Luke Evans) who searches for redemption and a second chance as he returns to his old neighborhood to put to rest his demons while the brother of the man he killed seeks revenge.
The film was directed by Phil Allocco who based this off of his own 2005 short called The Mirror.
THINGS I LIKED:
- I adore Luke Evans. He’s great at action, drama, comedy, and can sing and dance! He gives a great performance, as always. I was curious why he would pick this script. My guess is that he wanted to make a political statement for gun control.
- I love the intriguing title. Five pounds of pressure refers to the fact that it takes 5 pounds of pressure to pull the trigger on a gun. Only five pounds of pressure is required to take a life. In the story, we see how only five pounds of pressure ruined so many people’s lives. So devastating. That being said, it would be fascinating to watch a movie where that same 5 pounds of pressure could save a life.
- The cast includes Rory Culkin, Alex Pettyfer, Stephanie Leonidas, Rudy Pankow, and more. I thought they all did a fine job painting a picture of a certain kind of life.
- Fun fact: The movie is supposed to take place in Brooklyn, although it was filmed in Manchester, England.
- Lesson learned #1: If you’re trying to get a fresh start, don’t go back to the place where you made all of the wrong choices before.
- Lesson learned #2: Surround yourself with people who lift and inspire you, not drag you down.
THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE:
- I hate spending time in the gutter with characters who can’t speak a sentence without an F-bomb and who have terrible life choices. I decided to watch and review this movie because of Luke Evans.
- The film felt especially long because it took a long time for it to get to its point and I didn’t enjoy the environment I was immersed in for almost 2 hours.
TIPS FOR PARENTS:
- This is not appropriate for kids.
- Profanity, including F-bombs
- Gutter life with terrible people
- We see some disgusting violence with various weapons
- LOTS of tattoos
- Alcohol, drugs, smoking
- A scene takes place in a strip club, so we see women dancing suggestively in the background.
THEMES:
- Forgiveness
- Second chances
- Redemption
- Revenge
- Regrets
- Choices and consequences
FUNNY LINES:
- None. This is a serious drama.
INTERESTING LINES:
- “If you need anything else, go without it.” – friend who shares his apartment
- “When somethings over, let it be over.” – Lori (Savannah Steyn)
