Christmas on Repeat movie review

MOVIE TITLE:     Christmas on Repeat

This goofy holiday movie is now available on Hulu.

RATING:    PG

LENGTH:      1 hour 29 minutes

MOVIE REVIEW MOM GRADE:     C+

IN A NUTSHELL:

Do you ever wish you could do a day over again?  Yeah, me too, about a million times!  I love movies that include a time loop.  I have some recommendations for some movies that repeat down below.

This movie is about an ad executive who gets more than she bargained for when Santa grants her wish for a Christmas do-over, and she realizes she’s been missing precious time with her family.

THINGS I LIKED:

  • Jennifer Taylor does a good job as a mom who is struggling to find balance in her life.  I think a lot of moms will be able to relate to her character.  Did you know Jennifer Taylor won first runner-up in the Miss Florida pageant two years in a row?  She was just about ready to move back to Florida and give up acting when she finally got offered the part to play Chelsea in the popular TV show Two and a Half Men in 2003.
  • Don’t expect an award-winning movie.  This is low-budget fun for the holidays.
  • The film takes a look at our motivations and struggles.

THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE:

  • Some of the acting moments were terrible.
  • It was super frustrating to watch the protagonist waste so much time that she had been given to redo her Christmas day.
  • It’s kind of frustrating to see that the main character took a job to help the family financially, yet she’s being made out to be the bad guy.  Of course, she needed to set boundaries at work, but still…It’s a role reversal of the classic story about a dad who puts his career ahead of his family.  The dad in this story looked to be a stay-at-home dad even though their kids were not very young.
  • It’s extremely predictable.
  • Some of the plot points were ridiculous.
  • Not all of the humor lands.
  • I didn’t feel any chemistry between the married couple.  Their marriage is on the rocks and THAT you feel.
  • None of the characters seemed very realistic.  They’re all super one-dimensional.

TIPS FOR PARENTS:

  • No profanity
  • Alcohol is consumed
  • Overall, it’s very family-friendly.

THEMES:

  • Priorities
  • Family
  • Adoption
  • Second chances
  • Setting boundaries
  • Work/life balance
  • Second families

FUNNY LINES:

None worth noting.

INTERESTING LINES:

  • “Hey, Larry!  Merry Christmas!”  – Andrea  (Jennifer Taylor)        “That’s one opinion.” – Larry
  • “You didn’t just marry your wife; you married her entire family.  You just have to set boundaries.” –  Andrea (Jennifer Taylor)
