MOVIE TITLE:    Maybe I Do

RATING:  PG-13

LENGTH:  1 hour 35 minutes

Movie Review Mom GRADE:   C-

IN A NUTSHELL:

Michelle and Allen are in a relationship. They decide to invite their parents to finally meet about marriage. Turns out, the parents already know one another well, which leads to some differing opinions about marriage.

The film was written and directed by Michael Jacobs.

TIPS FOR PARENTS:

  • Kids will be extremely bored.
  • A woman tries to seduce a married man with her cleavage.
  • A self-proclaimed religious woman takes a Bible out of the rented hotel room before she prepares for a one-night stand.  Not funny.
  • A father talks to his daughter about “getting it for free”

THEMES:

  • Aging
  • Sexuality
  • Coupling
  • Marriage
  • Infidelity
  • Happiness
  • Cynicism

THINGS I LIKED:

  • The star power includes Oscar winners and nominees:  Diane Keaton, Richard Gere, William H. Macy, Susan Sarandon, Luke Bracey, and Emma Roberts.  How can a movie with this much talent be so bad?
  • I like the reveal that shows how the stories are intertwined.

THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE:

  • Infidelity is supposed to be so funny in this movie.  Nope, it’s not.
  • Very stiff, soulless, trite dialogue.
  • There isn’t much character development.  Most of the characters have no self-esteem and whine about everything.
  • The scenarios are ridiculous.
  • It’s exhausting watching selfish people be mean, demanding, and snarky to one another.
  • The dialogue thinks it’s much wiser than it really is.
  • All of the characters are selfish and paper thin.
  • It’s easy to understand why the young couple is so messed up when you see the parents.
  • I haven’t seen a movie start with credits that went on and on like this in a long time!
  • There’s no chemistry between any of the characters.
  • Sappy background music.
  • Awkward kissing.

Lame/ FUNNY LINES:

  • “How do you marry a person you love?  How could you do that to somebody?” –  Allen   (Lukey Bracey)

INTERESTING LINES:

  • “Michelle wants to marry me.” – Allen  (Luke Bracey)    “What for?” –   Monica   (Susan Sarandon)
  • “When you change the nature of the relationship, the relationship changes.” –   Monica  (Susan Sarandon)
  • “Finding the right person is one of the most important decisions we make.” –   Michelle  (Emma Roberts)
