MOVIE TITLE: Eternity (2025)
This romantic comedy is now playing on Apple TV

RATING: PG-13
LENGTH: 1 hour 54 minutes
Movie Review Mom GRADE: A-

IN A NUTSHELL:
Eternity is a beautifully tender, thought-provoking drama about love, loss, forgiveness, and the hope of life beyond this one. The story is about people who go to the afterlife “waiting room” after they die, learning they have only 1 week where it is they wish to spend eternity. Great premise, right? Throw in a love triangle, and now you have an emotional story!
The film was directed by David Freyne, who also co-wrote it with Patrick Cunnane. Already, the film has been nominated for 7 awards and won 2.

TIPS FOR PARENTS:
This film is appropriate for teens and adults, but younger children may find the themes of death and grief confusing or emotionally heavy. There are several intense emotional scenes involving loss, mourning, and regret.
- Some “mild” language
- Lots of alcohol and drunkenness
- Some mostly covered intimate moments
- Several mentions of a certain male, anatomical body part

THEMES:
• Eternal families and bonds
• Love that transcends death
• Grief and healing
• Forgiveness
• Redemption
• Faith and hope
• Second chances
• The power of choice
- Junctions in our life

THINGS I LIKED:
• The three leading actors all did a great job: Miles Teller, Elizabeth Olsen, and Callum Turner. Eye candy for everyone.
- The supporting actors who provided welcome comic relief were adorable: John Early, Olga Merediz, and Academy Award winner Da’Vine Joy Randolph.
- Studio A24 consistently brings us unique and interesting stories. I’ve been a fan for years.
• Beautiful cinematography, especially in the “eternal realm” scenes.
• Thoughtful pacing allows emotional moments to breathe.
• A hopeful message without being preachy.
• The film provides humorous and gentle faith-based elements that are relatable to all audiences.
• The powerful closing sequence leaves you reflecting long after the film ends. I love movies that make you think.
- I love it when a writer and director pay attention to the details. In this movie, there are many things to enjoy! Read all of the signs as fast as you can!

THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE:
• There’s a lot of bickering and talk of intimate relations.
- I would have appreciated more humor.
- A few slow moments in the middle could have been tightened
• Some dialogue feels a bit on-the-nose.
• A couple of emotional beats feel slightly predictable. - It’s definitely not how I picture the next life, but it was fun to imagine and laugh at the possibilities.

FUNNY LINES:
“There’s got to be an instruction manual for the afterlife… because I clearly missed it.”

INTERESTING LINES:
“Love doesn’t end at death. It only changes shape.”
“We spend so much time fearing the end that we forget to live in the now.”
“Forever isn’t about time. It’s about connection.”
- “All we are is a collection of memories.” – Afterlife Coordinator (Da’Vine Joy Randolph)
