IN A NUTSHELL:

The film was directed by Paul Feig.  Writing credits go to Darcey Bell, Jessica Sharzer, and Laeta Kalogridis. Already, the movie has been nominated for the Audience Award by Headliner and won the ReFrame Award for 2025 for casting Alex Newell, a Trans actor you might remember from the popular musical TV show Glee.

I recently watched the first movie in this franchise to remember the details in that story.  It definitely helps to see the 2018 film before watching this to better appreciate all of the characters.

TIPS FOR PARENTS:

  • Profanity, including crude language and F-bombs
  • Talk of prison 
  • Talk of murder and portrayal of one
  • Inappropriate innuendo
  • We see the naked backside of a man in the shower. He turns around to face us but his private parts are blurred out.
  • Lots of alcohol
  • Blood splatters
  • Guns and knives are used

THEMES:

  • Revenge
  • Trust
  • Obsession
  • Friendship
  • Social media 

THINGS I LIKED:

  • Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick have great chemistry together.
  • Blake Lively’s name has been swirling in controversy surrounding the release of her last movie It Ends With Us last year. Amazon disabled the comments on the film’s trailer on various social media platforms.
  • The fantastic cast also includes Allison Janney, Henry Golding, Andrew Rannells, Bashir Salahuddin, Elizabeth Perkins (hilarious), Michele Morrone, and more. We see a lot of familiar faces from the first movie, plus meet some new ones.
  • It’s fun to see the two young sons from the first movie growing up right before our eyes.
  • We get to spend time on the beautiful island of Capri and watch beautiful people.
  • There’s a funny conversation about Kate Winslet and how awesome she was for being able to hold her breath for 7 minutes when she was filming the Avatar movie sequel, but how she should have moved over to allow Leonardo DiCaprio’s character to get on the piece of furniture in the movie Titanic.  I always thought the same thing!  Ha ha
  • I love the title of both films.
  • The wedding reception décor was gorgeous.
  • Wow, that seaside room Anna Kendrick stays in during house arrest is beautiful. I adore blue & white tile.
  • Like the first film in the franchise, there are some humorous moments.
  • If you like this franchise, you’ll love the cliffhanger that opens the door for a third installment.

THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE:

  • There’s some rehashing of the same themes from the first movie.
  • The story is all over the place with very unrealistic plot points.
  • I really do love Allison Janney and I’m such a huge fan, but the plastic surgery and Botox on her face was super distracting in this film.
  • There are some bad green-screen moments and CGI.

  • “You look different.” –  Emily Nelson  (Blake Lively)   “Eh, I had work done.” Margaret McLanden  (Elizabeth Perkins)

INTERESTING LINES:

  •  “Mother is a powerful bond.” –   Stephanie    (Anna Kendrick)
