MOVIE TITLE:   Armor

This high-octane action movie by Lionsgate is now available on Fandango at Home.

RATING:    R

LENGTH:  1 hour 29 minutes

Movie Review Mom GRADE:   C-

IN A NUTSHELL:

My husband once knew a guy who served time for trying to rob an armored delivery truck.  Needless to say, that guy was not the smartest guy my husband ever knew.

This story is about a father and son who work as security guards for an armored truck company. On a routine trip, some bad guys led by Sylvester Stallone attempt to rob the truck on a bridge. The father and son defend the truck while becoming trapped in the vehicle, and must come up with a plan to escape and survive.

The movie was directed by Justin Routt, although the prop master, Steve Noell, admitted Justin didn’t actually do anything. Apparently, filming was a mess and was cut short after only 9 days. Writing credits go to Cory Todd Hughes and Adrian Speckert.

TIPS FOR PARENTS:

  • We see people in a group therapy session talking about their alcoholism.
  • Bloody, dead bodies
  • A lot of firearms and other weapons are used
  • Profanity and a bunch of F-bombs
  • Lots of explosions and destruction.

THEMES:

  • Alcoholism
  • Family
  • Parenting
  • Crime and the cartels
  • Greed
  • Mercy

THINGS I LIKED:

  • Good for Sylvester Stallone…he’s 78 years old and still pumping out movies.  He looks good and adds the star power to this movie. Rumor has it that he shot all of his scenes in only one day and was paid $3.5 million.  Nice paycheck, eh?
  • Other cast members include Jason Patric, Josh Wiggins, Dash Mihok, Josh Whites, Blake Shields, and Joel Cohen.
  • Really good cinematography by Cale Finot.
  • Nice soundtrack by Yagmur Kaplan!  I loved the opening song.

THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE:

  • The movie squeeks in and just under an hour and half and, for many viewers, that trim time is still too long.
  • Very few elements of the story are believable and realistic.  You could drive a truck…an armored one…through the plot holes in this film.
  • Many have asked why a famous, successful celebrity like Sylvester Stallone would accept this script and be willing to act in the movie.  Why?  Money, my friends.  Easy money. At some point, movie stars need to really consider whether they want their names attached to such poor film projects as part of their legacy, right?
  • I kept thinking that missing pen was going to be found and come in handy in the end somehow, but no.
  • Some humor could have made the film self-aware and more entertaining.
  • The villains are ridiculous idiots.

FUNNY LINES:

  • “You’re aware I was a cop, right?” –  James Brody  (Jason Patric)   “Nobody’s perfect.” –     Rook  (Sylvester Stallone)

INTERESTING LINES:

  • “That’s the hardest part: admitting what you’ve become.” – James Brody  (Jason Patric)
  • “What we have is a Murphy’s Law situation.” –   Rook    (Sylvester Stallone)
