MOVIE TITLE:     Big Sky River: The Bridal Path

This Hallmark Movies & Mysteries original is now available on Philo and Spectrum TV.

RATING:    TV-PG

LENGTH:      1 hour 30 minutes

MOVIE REVIEW MOM GRADE:    B

IN A NUTSHELL:

If you saw the first movie in this story and are ready for more, here you go.  It’s definitely more of the same romance and cheese.  The story is based on the book by Linda Lael Miller.

The love-fest was directed by Peter Benson.  Writing credits go to Linda Lael Miller and J.B. White.

THINGS I LIKED:

  • Emmanuelle Vaugier and Kavan Smith make a lovely couple.  Unfortunately, their characters spend the bulk of the movie bickering with each other.
  • The young cast is adorable and includes Sawyer Fraser, Cassidy Nugent, Josh Zaharia.
  • We get to hear some nice, country music by Michelle Harrison and Peter Benson.
  • The manly/country names of the men and boys cracked me up:  Boone, Hutch, Slade, Dawson, Fletcher, and Griffin.
  • We get to see some beautiful landscapes in Montana.
  • Cute proposal and wedding scene.
  • It was really nice to see unselfish parents who put their kids before their own personal happiness.
  • There’s a scene that shows a baby’s gender reveal party. If you’re pregnant and ready for an announcement party, check out my book on Amazon at https://amzn.to/445P1Jn !  It’s called, “Baby Announcement Ideas and Gender Reveals: 200 Creative Ways to Share Your Great News”.
  • The story is about how difficult it is to blend families. My parents divorced when I was 10 years old.  They both had second marriages, so I could absolutely relate to the difficult transition that can be for young kids.
  • There are two romances, not just one!

THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE:

  • It’s definitely more enjoyable if you’ve seen the first movie. You can read my review or watch it on my Movie Review Mom YouTube channel.  This one is definitely less romantic than the first one because the lead couple is engaged and now dealing with all of the stress and business of planning a wedding and trying to figure out how to merge the two families.
  • Awkward kisses between the main couple. The better ones are between Michelle Harrison and Peter Benson.
  •  Super cheesy dialogue.
  • Some of the transitions between scenes are rough and abrupt.
  • There’s a break-up that lasts only about 30 seconds.
  • It’s pretty predictable.
  • More humor would have balanced the fighting scenes.

TIPS FOR PARENTS:

  • Kids will be bored.
  • Talk of a mother who died.
  • We see two gay dads at a parent/teacher conference.
  • Talk of blended families.

THEMES:

  • Blended/Second families
  • Country life
  • Messy romances
  • The movie is clean, simple, sweet, and refreshing.
  • No profanity.

FUNNY LINES:

  • Not much.  The movie isn’t a comedy.  There are some amusing lines, which are mostly characters razzing one another, but nothing that’ll make you laugh out loud.

INTERESTING LINES:

  • “Part of life is moving forward and doing whatever you need to do to get there.” –  Boone Taylor  (Kavan Smith)
  • “You’re not going to lose me. You just found me.” – Boone Taylor  (Kavan Smith)
  • “That’s one thing Parable taught me: to be honest with myself about what I want.” –  Casey Elder  (Michelle Harrison)
  • “We have to be on the same page when it comes to the kids.” – Tara Kendall  (Emmanuelle Vaugler)
  • “Let’s start with forever and go from there.” – James (Peter Benson)
