MOVIE TITLE: Boonie Bears: To the Rescue
Available on DVD and streaming platforms December 17, 2019!
RATING: G
LENGTH: 1 hour, 33 minutes
Movie Review Mom GRADE: B
IN A NUTSHELL:
The Boonie Bears is a very sweet franchise, perfect for little ones. It’s not the best animation we’ve ever seen, but it’s entertaining enough and this sequel, of sorts, is the best one I’ve seen yet, brought to us by a Chinese company, Vision Films Inc.
The cute little girl is what makes this new addition to the franchise fun and adorable. This is the second Boonie Bears movie to come out in 2019. Click here if you want to read my movie review of Fantastica: A Boonie Bears Adventure.
Directed by Leon Ding (Ding Liang) , the movie is NOT currently in theaters but is NOW available as a Video on Demand on iTunes, Vudu, Playstation, Google Play, Amazon Prime, Fandango Now, as well as DVD. It’s also available on cable affiliates including Comcast, Spectrum, Verizon, Frontier, Suddenlink, Mediacom, Google Fiber, Dish, and DirecTV.
The film will actually be available in English, French, and Spanish.
TIPS FOR PARENTS:
- A man has a disgusting runny nose that even grosses out himself.
- A man eats a pork bun for breakfast. You can talk to your kids about different foods people eat around the world. Because the movie is produced by a Chinese company, there are a lot of Chinese elements in the film that can introduce them to Asia.
- Logger Vick has a super messy house and needs to control his temper. Talk to your kids about his good and bad qualities.
- You see a poppy diaper.
- Cartoon violence
- People and creatures in perilous situations.
THEMES:
- Friendship
- Parenting, family
- Responsibility
- Teamwork
- Caring for others
- Sacrifice for others
THINGS I LIKED:
- The little girl is adorable (when she’s not crying). At the very end, you get to see pictures of all the Chinese children who voiced her character. I was surprised it was so many!
- All of the other voices are performed by just a few people: Rick Jay Glen, Siobhan Lumsden, and Paul “Maxx” Rinehart, Toni Thompson, and Justin J. Wheeler.
- Rick Jay Glen also does vocals for the two seet songs: “Lola’s Eyes” and “Boonie Bears Samba.”
- There is some cute visual humor.
- I liked the creative flying scenes that featured various devices that all looked like they’d be fun (although dangerous) to use.
- While the entire movie tends to be very chaotic and frenzied, Act 3 is very touching and provides the deeper lessons to be learned for children and adults.
THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE:
-
- The mouths don’t match the English language. No worries. The target audience of kids won’t mind. That’s what allows the producers to market this film in several languages.
- Some of the voice acting is terrible, annoying, and even hard to understand (the cop).
FUNNY LINES:
* “You know we like every food under the sun…even when it’s raining.” – Bramble
DUMB LINES:
- “We are the bad guys, remember?” – Mr. Lee
