You probably already anticipated this, but the famous documentary film festival in New York City is going virtual this year! The Huffington Post enthusiastically stated, “This cinematic bonanza covers everything new and noteworthy in the world of documentary filmmaking.” DOC NYC is also an Academy-qualifying festival for short films. DOC NYC’s winning short will qualify for consideration in the Documentary Short Subject category of the Annual Academy Awards® without the standard theatrical run, provided the film otherwise complies with the Academy rules. This year, DOC NYC celebrates its 11th edition
I was invited to attend and prescreen the films, so I’ll be sharing my reviews of some of those this week!
It has an incredible line-up of films, something for everyone’s taste. You can take a peek at the many films, as well as purchase a virtual ticket on their website.
The line-up of over 100 features and 40 shorts spans a wide spectrum of talent from Oscar-winning directors and first-timers. The selection contains a strong showing of world and US feature premieres and new sales titles. In addition to the selection of premieres, the festival is also known for its influential Short Lists with an unparalleled track record of predicting Oscar nominees and winners.
Audiences will be able to watch films on a range of devices, including the DOC NYC app that will be available on Apple TV, Android TV, Roku, Firestick and Tizen.
