MOVIE TITLE: EXTRACTION
RATING: R
LENGTH: 1 hour, 56 minutes
Movie Review Mom GRADE: B
IN A NUTSHELL:
Chris Hemsworth gives an exciting performance in this action thriller presented by Netflix Studio, based on the graphic novel CIUDAD by Joe Russo.
The movie is directed by former stuntman Sam Hargrave, and the excellent stunt work in this film is a result of his intimate experience and expertise in stunt work and action direction.
TIPS FOR PARENTS:
- Lots and lots of brutal violence
- Weapons and depiction of weapons dealers
- Drug traffickers
- Blood and gore
- Brutal deaths with an extremely high body count
THEMES:
- Loyalty
- Persistence
- Innocence
- Power
THINGS I LIKED:
- Fantastic stunt work that showcased close combat and martial arts sequences.
- Non-stop action. One of the action sequences is 11 minutes and 30 seconds long that the camera follows in what looks like one, uninterrupted take. Super impressive.
- The camera work is outstanding, something probably very tricky considering how the action scenes worked.
- In one of the flashback scenes, you see a child who is actually Chris Hemsworth’s son in real life.
THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE:
- While there is a lot of violence, a lot of it is simply for the sake of violence.
- Some of the action sequences look like they came straight out of video games like CALL OF DUTY.
- The plot isn’t really anything we haven’t seen before.
- Apparently, a lot of people in Bangladesh have been rating this film poorly on various review sites, saying that it doesn’t represent their country properly because that’s where the movie takes place.
INTERESTING LINES:
- “You drown not by falling into the river, but by staying submerged in it.” – This is a quote from Paulo Coelho, a popular Brazilian novelist who wrote
