If you live in the United States, then you know Halloween is fast approaching! For those of you outside the USA, it’s a crazy holiday that occurs every October 31st where people dress up, have parties, and take their kids “trick-or-treating” in the neighborhood for candy. While I like to focus on the autumn harvest and cute pumpkins, a lot of people love going to haunted houses and getting scared.
The only other holiday like Halloween that I can think of is Carnival, which happens in some countries, usually in the Spring. I lived in Spain for a couple of years and people would dress up in costumes and go to parties and parades to celebrate Carnival in March. I really love the costume aspect of both Halloween and Carnival because it gives everyone a chance to be someone they’re not, if only for a day.
To really get in the mood for our wacky holiday this weekend, I just finished watching HUBIE HALLOWEEN and got a kick out of seeing the various costumes people wore in that movie. You can read my review of HUBIE HALLOWEEN by clicking here. I recently ordered some knee-high socks from Chrissy’s because there are so many costumes that go with them. I still haven’t decided which ones I’ll use yet though.
I have a Bob Marley hat with dreadlocks and a tie-dye shirt that would go perfectly with that red, green, and yellow pair of Rastafarian socks! Those grey and black ones will go with a cute baseball outfit I have. Then again, I really love the mint green and black ones. Honestly, one of the reasons why I love Chrissy’s tube socks is because there are sooooo many socks to choose from, plus they’re made in the USA and they are fur-free to protect animals. I wanted to see how sturdy they would be, so I had two of my sons model them. ha ha They made me promise not to show their faces in the picture. The socks are unisex and perfect for costumes, sports, or even as a Christmas stocking-stuffer. There are only 58 more shopping days until Christmas! EEK!
I absolutely love costume design in movies. A couple of movies I recently saw where the costume design was noticeably good was Enola Holmes, also on Netflix like Hubie Halloween, and Mulan on the Disney Plus channel. Sometimes period piece movies put their actors in clothing that actually look like costumes, but I absolutely loved what the wardrobe department did in the 2020 remake of the movie Emma. Gorgeous. If you’re a Jane Austin fan, you’ll love it, but if you want to see some truly stunning costume design, definitely check out that movie!
How about YOU? What are YOU going to wear for Halloween this year?
Which movies have you seen lately that had noticeably good costume design?
