MOVIE TITLE: Halloween Kills
RATING: R
LENGTH: 1 hour 46 minutes
IN A NUTSHELL:
If you’re a fan of the franchise and can’t seem to get enough, well here you go. Here’s more. This new addition in the franchise picks up right where the last one left off. More screams. More gore. More…of the same.
To its credit, the movie actually looks, feels, and sounds like it belongs in the creepy collection. The crowds chant, “Evil Dies Tonight!” “Once and for all.” Yeah, right.
THINGS I LIKED:
- Classic jumps and scares.
- There is a scene in a bar where past victims and survivors are mentioned, offering quick clips from previous films in the series.
- If you haven’t seen any of these movies before, you’ll hear a little bit about the Michael Myers lore through the characters. You’ll catch on quickly, although you won’t quite understand the motivation of the monster.
- The passionate cast includes Jamie Lee Curtis, Judy Greer, Anthony Michael Hall, Will Patton, Thomas Mann, and even Kyle Richards who was in the first movie.
- The film’s Executive Producers are Jamie Lee Curtis and John Carpenter: two huge fans of the franchise. Jamie Lee Curtis said that she thought this new chapter in the story is a masterpiece, mirroring the Black Lives Matter.
THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE:
- The last addition to the franchise was interesting because it brought back Jamie Lee Curtis. This one, however, was just boring. It’s just a string of senseless, brutal violence, and deaths.
- At this point, don’t most viewers just watch this because they’re looking for something spooky to watch at Halloween, but they’re really expecting to just laugh at it the whole time?
- Some of the deaths are actually laughable.
- Super shallow dialogue.
- Like most horror movies, most of the characters make stupid decisions.
TIPS FOR PARENTS:
- This horror flick is not appropriate for kids.
- Bullying
- TONS of blood and gore.
- Brutal deaths with TONS of violence with weapons and hand-to-hand combat
- Extremely high body count
- Profanity, including lots of F-bombs
- Alcohol
- Gay couple
THEMES:
- Taking the law into your own hands
- Evil
- Mob rule
- Mistaken identity
- Revenge
INTERESTING LINES:
- “He needs to die.” – Deputy Frank Hawkins (Will Patton)
- “Now it’s turning us into monsters.” – Tommy Doyle (Anthony Michael Hall)
- “Hey, Michael. It’s Halloween. Everyone’s entitled to one good scare.” –
