MOVIE TITLE: He’s All That
This is now playing exclusively on Netflix.
RATING: PG-13
LENGTH: 1 hour 31 minutes
IN A NUTSHELL:
In this reimagining of 1999’s She’s All That, teen social media influencer Padgett’s humiliating on-camera breakup goes viral, leading her to make a risky bet to save her reputation: she swears she can turn scruffy antisocial Cameron into prom king material. But things get complicated when she finds herself falling for him IRL (in real life).
This movie and the original were both written by
THINGS I LIKED:
- Fans of Cobra Kai – Season 01 / Cobra Kai – Season 02 – Set will love seeing Tanner Buchanan in the starring role in this teen rom-com. He has a serious six-pack and we get to see him work his karate moves.
- Girls might learn some helpful makeover tips from Addison Rae’s character as an Influencer. She’s a Tiktokker in real life. In fact, she’s the 2nd most followed TikTokker but the highest-paid. She’s known for her dancing, which she also showcases in this film in a couple of scenes. She and Tanner Buchanan also starred together in Girl Meets World in 2014.
- The bubble out of the nose. Nice touch. Ha ha
- Rachael Leigh Cook honestly doesn’t look that much older than her daughter played by Addison Rae. In real life, she could be though at age 41. She looks great and instills her character with a fun, quirky personality. Another thing I love about her being in the movie is that both she and Mathew Liliard starred in the original She’s All That.
- Kourtney Kardashian is actually in the movie to the squeals and delights of her Instafollowers.
- Fans of the original She’s All That will spot some fun Easter eggs.
- The dance scene was completely random but fun.
- Peyton Meyer does a great job playing a total douche.
- Pre-teen girls are going to love this.
- Keep watching during the final rolling credits for some cute blooper clips. All movies should have blooper reels. 🙂
THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE:
- Some really forced, cringe-worthy, bad acting moments.
- Super cliched and predictable with a paint-by-numbers script.
- Soooo much blatant merchandising. What bothered me the most about this movie is that it felt like it was a product produced by a formula guaranteed to tick all the boxes designed by a corporate think tank.
- I didn’t feel any chemistry between the leads.
TIPS FOR PARENTS:
- Shirtless guys
- Scantily-clad girls
- Kids swear, 1 F-bomb, and use of other crude language
- Lesbians
- Talk of drugs
- Teens get tattoos
- Kissing
- Teens cheating on each other
THEMES:
- Talk of entitled trust funders
- Superficiality
- High school life
- Poor vs rich
- Self-respect
- Trust
- Loyalty
- Honesty
- Reputation
- Cell phone life
- Influencers
- Authenticity
- “You be you” is what all teen movies seem to be about these days
FUNNY LINES:
- “They’re A-holes and I remind them. It’s my place in the ecosystem.” – Cameron Kweller (Tanner Buchanan)
INTERESTING LINES:
- “High school’s just a bunch of scared people pretending to be something they’re not.” – Cameron (Tanner Buchanan)
- “Sometimes bold can be your bestie.” – Padgett Sawyer (Addison Rae)
- “It’s only a mistake if you don’t learn from it.” – Anna Sawyer (Rachael Leigh Cook)
