Movie Review Mom GRADE: B+
IN A NUTSHELL:
They had me at Liam Leeson. I know, I know…he’s getting old but I still love watching him kick butt in movies. This movie feels like a bonus gift to make up for 2020 because Liam Leeson had previously announced after filming Cold Pursuit that it would be his last action movie. Honest Thief was directed by Mark Williams. He also co-wrote it with Steve Allrich.
If you’re looking for a solid Liam Neeson action flick, this one will do the trick.
TIPS FOR PARENTS:
- Some profanity
- Violence (of course): shooting guns, hand-to-hand fighting
- Destruction of cars, buildings, faces
- Death and talk of dying
- “Mild” profanity
THEMES:
- Honesty, integrity
- Dirty cops
- Feeling alive
- The need to feel loved
- The power of love
THINGS I LIKED:
- Who doesn’t love Liam Neeson? You know what you’re going to get with a Liam Neeson action flick. The trailer pretty much shows you what you’re going to see, so if it looks good to you, you’ll enjoy the movie.
- Kate Walsh gives a very good performance and is an even match for Liam’s character.
- If you loved the popular TV show “The Burn Notice” like I did, you’ll get a kick out of seeing Jeffrey Donovan. I think he’s really talented and should be in more movies. If you’ve never watched that series, I think you’ll really like it: Burn Notice 1-7 Complete Series – Seasons 1,2,3,4,5,6 & 7
- Other talented cast members include Jai Courtney, Robert Patrick, and Anthony Ramos.
- I love the title of the movie. Leave it to Hollywood to make us feel sympathy for a criminal.
- Most of the filming was done in Worcester and Oxford in Massachusetts. I love the look and feel of east-coast cities.
- Mixed in with all of the action is a very sweet love story.
THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE:
- It’s extremely predictable.
- He asks his girlfriend to move in with her, promises he’ll never hurt her, and THEN turns himself in? It seems like he did everything in the wrong order.
- Because Liam Neeson is getting older, there aren’t as many hand-to-hand combat scenes. Instead, they’re replaced with a lot of tense driving scenes and shooting from a safe distance. ha ha
- It’s a pretty standard plot with no twists or fun turns that keep you guessing.
FUNNY LINES:
* “Agent Nivens. I’m coming for you.” – Tom (Liam Neeson)
“I love you.” – Tom (Liam Neeson) “Why would you not?” – (Annie) Kate Walsh
