MOVIE TITLE:  It’s Coming

This spooky paranormal documentary is now available for streaming on Fandango at Home.

RATING:   PG

LENGTH:  1 hour 28 minutes

Movie Review Mom GRADE:  B+

IN A NUTSHELL:

Meet America’s most haunted family. IT’S COMING follows the harrowing, firsthand, supernatural encounters of Ashley Roland-White, a successful Brooklyn-based day trader and mother of five. Despite her natural skepticism, Ashley acknowledges a malevolent presence has haunted her since childhood. As a professional and mother, she kept these experiences private, sharing them only with her immediate family, fearing others would question her mental stability or dismiss her as irrational. However, when the spirits begin targeting her children, Ashley is forced to confront the dark forces threatening her family.

During production, inexplicable events heighten the film’s authenticity: a boom mic lunging toward Ashley, mysterious shadows captured on night vision, and retired New York City Police Officer Chris DeFlorio—author of CALLED INTO DARKNESS—using a Kinect camera detects a crouching, otherworldly figure near the family’s television. This chilling documentary is a must-see for horror and paranormal enthusiasts alike.

The documentary was directed, written, and produced by Shannon Alexander.

THINGS I LIKED:

  • Ashley appears to be a single mother of 5 children, although she mentions a husband; however, we never see him in the film.  She explained that she has had experiences with the supernatural ever since she was a young child.  She seems relatively calm, yet exasperated in the film because she’s so used to these events.
  • There are no special effects.  What we see on camera really happened.
  • You’ll probably get the chills, especially when we “hear” the evil spirits talking.  Scary!
  • The movie was filmed in New York City, where Ashley Roland-White lives with her children.
  • It’s interesting to see Ashley try various actions in order to understand the spirits and understand what’s happening.
  • The film begins and ends abruptly and in a creepy, foreboding way.
  • Do I believe in spirits?  Definitely.  Do I believe there are evil spirits here on earth with bad intention?  Definitely.  What do YOU believe?
  • This would be a “fun” film to watch on Halloween.
  • It’s a slow burn.
  • I would love to know more about the equipment that was used to detect spirits.  Those moments were super interesting.

THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE:

  • It’s completely bizarre that Ashley would stay in her home after all of the creepy experiences.  I would move ASAP!  One thing that is pointed out is that by engaging with the spirits, Ashley and her son may have opened a portal that is allowing more bad spirits to occupy her home.  The spirits may be attracted to the home but even if she moves, they may follow her.

TIPS FOR PARENTS:

  • Some profanity, including an F-bomb.
  • Children will be bored and frightened at the same time.
  • We see and hear creepy things.

THEMES:

  • Evil spirits
  • Possession
  • Haunting

FUNNY LINES:

  • None.  This is a serious film.

INTERESTING LINES:

  • “Mirrors are gateways.  Remember that.” – Ashley Roland-White  (the mom)
  • “There here, just like we’re here.  And who says they’re invading our space?  What if we’re invading theirs?  It’s very possible.” – Ashley Roland-White (the mom)
