Grade: B
Rating: PG-13, 129 minutes
In a Nutshell: Rinse and repeat. Fans are complaining that this franchise’s fresh ideas are extinct. Die-hard fans don’t seem to mind and still get a kick out of the cool dino CGI and thrilling action sequences. I’m a fan, so I still enjoyed this 4th installment.
Uplifting theme:
- “Life cannot be contained. Life breaks free. Life finds a way.” – Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum)
- Friendship
- Protecting animals, the planet, and those who can’t protect themselves
- Standing up against evil
Things I liked:
- Chris Pratt is pretty much awesome in every movie.
- The dinosaurs are pretty much awesome in every movie too.
- There are some respectful nods to past movies in the Jurassic Park
franchise, including a visit from some familiar faces and characters.
- Some of the action scenes were really awesome.
- Bryce Dallas Howard always gives a solid performance.
- A new dino. Yay!
Things I didn’t like:
-
- I hate it when scenes and lines from the trailers don’t actually appear in the movie.
- The plot is running a bit weary.
- No romance? Why not?
- Another movie, another token kid, although there is an interesting twist.
- I love Jeff Goldblum and wished we could have seen more of him.
- Some of the moments were just ridiculous.
Funny lines:
- “If I don’t come back, remember you’re the one who made me come here.” – Owen (Christ Pratt)
Interesting lines:
- “These creatures were here before us. If we’re not careful, they’ll be here after.” – Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum)
Tips for parents:
- Scary dinosaurs
- Some profanity
- Some brutal, gory deaths
- Violence
