MOVIE TITLE: Marry Me (not to be confused with the 2011 Marry Me )
RATING: PG-13
LENGTH: 1 hour 52 minutes
IN A NUTSHELL:
Believe it or not, this romantic comedy is based on the Keenspot webcomic and graphic novel series by Bobby Crosby and Remy “Eisu” Mokhtar. The story is about music superstar Kat Valdez (played by Jennifer Valdez) who marries a stranger in a crowd (played by Owen Wilson) when she learns that her fiance (played by Maluma) cheated on her before they were supposed to get married. The film is directed by Kat Coiro.
THINGS I LIKED:
- Jennifer Lopez and Owen Wilson actually starred together in the movie Anaconda. The casting worked for me. How about you? Do you think they had chemistry? Comment down below!
- This is the first time Colombian star Maluma has been in a feature film. Can you believe that Jennifer Lopez is 25 years older than Maluma? It’s true. It was really fun to watch both of them sing.
- I adore Chloe Coleman and loved her in My Spy.
- Congratulations to John Bradley who now has two movies playing in theaters. I thought he was really great in MOONFALL, even though the movie was disappointing. He always plays such a likable guy.
- Don’t most of us everyday people fantasize about falling in love with someone rich, talented, gorgeous, and famous?
- Keep watching during the rolling credits at the end for some cute clips of couples telling how they met.
THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE:
- I’m not a total stick in the mud, but I thought the women’s costumes during the song “Church” were super inappropriate.
- The entire movie felt like one gigantic commercial for multiple products. Owen Wilson’s character even said, “Everything in her life is sponsored.” Exactly. Some people will be turned off by the vanity project and self-promotion.
- Super predictable.
- The trailer gives the plot away.
- In Act 3, one of the characters does something really strange simply to provide a climax point in the story. It felt super contrived and didn’t make any sense.
TIPS FOR PARENTS:
- There are subtitles when Spanish is spoken
- Lots of skin and cleavage
- Suggestive dance moves and costumes
- Some kissing
THEMES:
- Love
- Infidelity
- The everyday man
- “If you sit in the problem long enough, the answer finds you.” – Charlie (Owen Wilson)
- Take a chance
FUNNY LINES:
* “If social media says it’s true, it must be true, right?” – Kat ( Jennifer Lopez)
INTERESTING LINES:
- “Social media can reach people. It can be a tool.” – Colin (John Bradley)
- “We pick the guy, we keep our name, and we decide to let him stay.” – Kat ( Jennifer Lopez)
- “There’s nothing wrong with having help.” – Kat ( Jennifer Lopez)
- “If you want something different, do something different.” – Kat ( Jennifer Lopez)
