IN A NUTSHELL:
The story is about a girl who draws scary images in a sketchbook. When it falls into a strange pond, her drawings come to life, unleashing dangerous and scary monsters into the town.
The film was written and directed by Seth Worley. Already, the film has been nominated for and won awards for Outstanding Editing and Production Design.

TIPS FOR PARENTS:
- Angel Studios doesn’t recommend this movie for children under 8 years old. Good call. I thought parts were super scary for young kids!
- Some profanity and mildly crude language
- Scary monsters drawn by chalk and crayons come to life
- Spooky and suspenseful music
- We see some flashbacks of a mother who has since died.
- A school bus with children in it crashes
- Bullying
- Lots of destruction
- People are in perilous situations

THEMES:
- Creativity and imagination
- Dealing with grief and loss
- Facing your fears
- Family support
- Choosing where to give our focus
- How we treat others
- Not running from pain

THINGS I LIKED:
- You’ll recognize Tony Hale immediately. He won an Emmy award for his role in the HBO comedy Veep. He also played Forky in Toy Story 4 and we’ll hear his voice again in the upcoming Toy Story 5!
- You might also recognize D’Arcy Carden from her Emmy-nominated role as Janet in The Good Place.
- You might not have ever seen the young actress Bianca Belle, although she’s been in several shows. She’s really terrific in this film.
- All of the kids did a great job, including Kue Lawrence and Kalon Cox.
- The movie does a good job diving into deep emotions, such as loss, grief, and fear.
- There are some Spielberg moments that blend the magic of children, humor, and scary things that made me think of Super 8 and E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial.
- It feels like a 1980s movie like Gremlins. That’s a good thing!
- I love the idea of a children’s drawings being brought to life.
- There is a nice balance of humor amidst the drama and “light” horror.

THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE:
- Not all of the CGI works.
- Some of the actors appear to have difficulty working with a green screen.
- It’s pretty scary for young kids!
- The film ends kind of abruptly.
- The child bully was described as being so horrible that the young girl was completely traumatized, but he didn’t seem mean, just more playfully misguided.

FUNNY LINES:
- “I’m going to check her vitals.” – Jack Wyatt (Kue Lawrence)
“What are her vitals?” – Demarcus (Jaxen Kenner)
“Something only boys have.” – Bowman Lynch (Kalon Cox)
“Her heartbeat.” – Carson (Genesis Rose Brown)

INTERESTING LINES:
- “My dad says, ‘You can’t control your Inbox but you can control your Outbox.” – Amber Wyatt (Bianca Belle)
- “I think life is all about balancing the good and the bad. If you don’t carry the good with you too, then it’s just going to make the bad stronger. I’m not saying get rid of the bad; I’m just saying you might want to include a little bit of the good.” – Taylor Wyatt (Tony Hale)
