Rescued by Ruby movie review

MOVIE TITLE:     Rescued by Ruby

This heartwarming movie will be available on Netflix on March 17, 2022

RATING:  PG

LENGTH:      1 hour 30 minutes

IN A NUTSHELL:

Based on true events that happened in Rhode Island, this inspiring movie is a refreshing, family-friendly film for all ages.

State trooper Dan (Grant Gustin) dreams of joining the K-9 Search & Rescue team, but no one will give him the chance. Shelter dog Ruby dreams of having a home, but is running out of hope. When fate brings Dan and Ruby together, it’s their unshakable bond that helps them face their toughest challenge yet.

THINGS I LIKED:

  • I’ve never been to Rhode Island and so I don’t know how their accent sounds in real life, but all of the actors sounded legit East Coast.
  • Grant Gustin is immediately likable as Dan, the State Trooper.  If enjoy him in this, you should definitely check him out as The FLASH!
  • The lovely Kaylah Zander plays the most supportive wife ever.  How could anyone not like her or her husband?  They’re great together.
  • There’s a touching twist that I loved.  Be ready with some tissues.
  • Beautiful, bright colors and sweet music welcome you from the first shot.
  • Keep watching during the final rolling credits to see photos of the real people behind this true story, including Ruby.  You’ll also get to watch some cute bloopers.
  • There’s a title card at the end that informs viewers to contact their local animal rescue group if they’re interested in rescuing an animal.

THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE:

  • It’s very predictable except for the twist.
  • The plot is very simple.

TIPS FOR PARENTS:

  • No profanity.  This is a very family-friendly movie.  Yay!
  • A couple of guys drink beers…ROOT beer.  That’s how clean this movie is.
  • Talk of death and dead bodies
  • A boy is in a perilous situation
  • Talk of murder

THEMES:

  • Trust
  • Having faith in yourself and others
  • Support
  • Persistence
  • Hope

INTERESTING LINES:

  • “Do you think he could be a canine dog?” – Dan   (Grant Gustin)      “SHE could be anything.” – Pat Inman   (Camille Sullivan)
  • “The taller the hat, the closer to God.” – Pat Inman  (Camille Sullivan) says about Dan.
  • “My husband has his own superpowers: his big heart, his boundless energy, his ability to hyper-focus on things, how he forgives, how he never gives up, how he trusts in something bigger than himself.” –   Melissa   (Kaylah Zander)
