|MOVIE TITLE:   Royale Facade

This cute rom-com is now playing on Fandango at Home and Prime Video

RATING:  PG

LENGTH: 1 hour 20 minutes

Movie Review Mom GRADE:  B

IN A NUTSHELL:

The story is about Princess Avali, who flees her coronation to escape her royal duties.  She chooses to go to a small town in Utah to visit an old friend, hoping she won’t be recognized.  It just so happens that a celebrity who looks just like one of the locals is also in town, causing a comedic mix-up and a little romance.

The rom-com was written and directed by Paul Cartwright.  He also played Miles Canter in the film.

THINGS I LIKED:

  • Isaac Akers is a talented actor who played both Anderson and Bennington.  I especially loved his Russian accent that suddenly evolved into a Texas one during the conversation in his café when he was trying to hide his identity.  He has a lot of charm as any character and is a natural on the Big Screen.
  • Weixin Le is lovely as Princess Avali Anaveria.
  • It was fun to see Monica Moore Smith in this.  I interviewed her a few years ago.
  • If you’re a fan of the Bonner family singers, you might recognize Yahosh Bonner who plays Chance Wallace.
  • You’ll get a kick out of all the quirky characters.
  • There are a lot of cute moments and amusing lines that make the film extremely charming.
  • The movie was filmed in Utah.  Enjoy those beautiful mountains and small-town, quaint feeling.

THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE:

  • The film looks amateurish and low-budget because it’s a first-time project for many of the cast and crew involved.
  • So many of the camera angles are not good, especially during close-up shots.  There’s a moment at the end of the movie when Extras run past the leads and are supposed to be off camera when they stop, but the wide angle shows all the Extras stop acting.  Part of that is also an editing mistake.
  • I hate shaky cam.  There is shaky cam.
  • Some of the writing is very good but not all of the humor lands.
  • The plot is extremely forced.

TIPS FOR PARENTS:

  • This fun flick is family-friendly with no profanity or inappropriate content.  Yay!

THEMES:

  • Royalty
  • Duty
  • Anxiety
  • Responsibility

FUNNY LINES:

  • “Trouble is coming and she’s determined.” – Carl Bishop (Nick Mathews)
  •  “It’s cuz you’re a redhead.” – Chance Wallace  (Yahosh Bonner)
  • “The split ends?  What a waste of potential.” – Bennington
  • “Kill the wizard.  Save the radish. Whatever you need.” – Bennington’s assistant
  • “Is this a moment?  Am I ruining it?” – Sarah Wallace  (Megan Rees)
