MOVIE TITLE:    Senior Moment

Premieres in select theaters on March 26, 2021 and on VOD (Video on Demand)

RATING:  PG-13

LENGTH:      1 hour 32 minutes

IN A NUTSHELL:

Thanks to Screen Media, I was able to preview this comedy for you.  William Shatner just turned 90 years on March 22, 2021!  Good for him for still making movies!  In the film, his character says he’s 72.  He plays a retired NASA pilot who gets stripped of his driver’s license and beloved vintage Porsche after drag racing around Palm Springs. Forced to take public transportation, he meets Caroline and learns to navigate love and life again. The rom-com movie is directed by Giorgio Sarafini.

Fans of some of these older actors will get a kick out of this cute, late-in-life comedy romance, while younger viewers will want something better.

THINGS I LIKED:

    • Fans of Star Trek Memories will love seeing William Shatner work his charm.  He admits the Porsche represents his youth, so that’s why he doesn’t want to lose her.
    • William Shatner and Christopher Lloyd also appeared together in the movies Star Trek III: The Search for Spock in 1984 and Just in Time for Christmas in 2015.
    • Other older actors who appear in short cameos are Ruta Lee, Kaye Ballard, Don McManus, Joe Estevez, and Jack Wallace.  The director’s wife, LaDon Drummond plays one of Victor’s former flings.
    • If you want to see more of the beautiful Katrina Bowden, check out her most recent movie Born a Champion

    • I enjoyed the friendship that evolved between one of the old white guys and a young Latino.
    • The film portrays the police as being supportive in the community.

THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE:

  • I never laughed once.  I really wanted to!
  • The movie starts with tons of sexual innuendoes and keeps them going throughout the entire movie.  Older audiences might think that’s funny, but young viewers think it’s gross.
  • Terrible dialogue.
  • Terrible editing.
  • The movie poster is a spoiler.
  • Super predictable.
  • There’s a storyline with a young woman that is completely dropped.

TIPS FOR PARENTS:

  • Kids will be completely bored. So will some adults.
  • Some profanity.
  • Crude and disrespectful comments.
  • Lesbians kiss
  • You see a woman in her underwear.
  • Lots of girls in skimpy bathing suits and clothes
  • Old people smoke a joint.
  • Alcohol and drunkenness
  • Two unmarried old people are seen in bed together with talk of a blue pill…

THEMES:

  • Aging
  • Life
  • Friendship
  • Persistence
  • Cars
  • Save the desert tortoise

FUNNY LINES:

  • “What is a man like you still doing chasing younger woman?” – Kristen James  (Katrina Bowden)    “You mean men my age?”  –    Victor Martin   (William Shatner)    “Yes, that’s what I mean.”  – Kristen James (Katrina Bowden)  “Because they’re so beautiful.” –   Victor Martin  (William Shatner)
  • “I hope I don’t come off like a chauvinist pig.”  –  Victor Martin   (William Shatner)    “Pigs are very smart.”   Kristen James  (Katrina Bowden)
  • “You were a pilot.  You’re used to getting high.”   –    Caroline Summers     (Jean Smart)
