MOVIE TITLE: Sometimes I Think About Dying
This quirky dramedy romance is now playing in select theaters, as well as on VOD.
RATING: PG-13
LENGTH: 1 hour 31 minutes
Movie Review Mom GRADE: B-
IN A NUTSHELL:
The story is about a woman who is bored at work, often daydreaming to fill her sense of isolation until a new coworker shows up.
The film was directed by Rachel Lambert. Writing credits go to Kevin Armento, Stefanie Abel Horowitz, and Katy Wright-Mead.
Already, it has been nominated for two awards from various film festivals and received one for Best Cinematography.
The movie is kind of like the popular TV show The Office but without a laugh track.
THINGS I LIKED:
- Daisy Ridley is always fantastic in everything she does. We’ve never seen her in such a subdued character like the role she plays in this.
- There’s something about Parvesh Cheena that I’ve always liked, so it was good to see him in a movie again.
- The characters and dialogue felt very realistic. I know people in real-life just like several characters!
- I’ve definitely had office jobs that make me feel a little bit dead inside each day I had to sit at my desk there. That’s no way to live, right? Lucky is the man or woman who loves their job.
- I could, obviously, relate to the character who loved movies so much.
- If you love awkward moments, this is the film for you.
- I thought the party game “Murder” was fun to watch because I’ve played that at parties many times before!
- The music is whimsical, just like the movie. The musical score and the silence are perfectly effective at setting the desired mood for each scene.
- The movie was filmed on the beautiful Oregon coast.
THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE:
- Some viewers will call the movie boring or complain that “nothing happens.” It’s a character study and look at life through the eyes of people who are extremely introverted and don’t feel like they fit in anywhere.
- Ultimately, the movie is rather depressing.
- I know it’s really hard for introverts to feel comfortable around people. While extroverts are energized being around people, it feels draining to introverts. Not to sound overly critical but what I didn’t like about Daisy Ridley’s character is that she didn’t try very hard. We ALL feel awkward and introverted at times. The quality of your life is affected by how willing you are to push past your comfort zone and have a growth mindset.
