MOVIE TITLE: The Adventures of Peanut & Pig
This new animation from Vision Films is available on Video on Demand, streaming, and cable platforms on April 5, 2022.
RATING: G
LENGTH: 75 minutes
IN A NUTSHELL:
This extremely colorful animation proudly boasts that it’s from the producer of the cute movie HOODWINKED. I really enjoyed that movie so I was excited to see what this movie would be about. Just so you know, it is VERY different from HOODWINKED in style, story, quality, and direction. This one is directed by Karl Toerge. The storyboard artist is the same one from SPACE JAM.
The story is about the floating island paradise of Gool, which is said to be the most beautiful place to live in the world until one day, the island begins to sink! Now, this frutopia is in big trouble and it’s up to an unlikely team of rival monkeys, a scientist bunny, and a jolly pig to put aside their differences and use their own unique strengths to save the day, all while learning about friendship and bravery along the way.
THINGS I LIKED:
- The animation isn’t as sophisticated and detailed as we’re typically used to nowadays, but the fact that it’s computerized can inspire young filmmakers to try their hand at designing a film on their own laptops. At times, I felt like I was in a VR chatroom.
- There are a lot of humorous transitions and gags that will make adults and kids laugh.
- It’s VERY colorful and energetic. You feel like you just chewed a bunch of bubble gum.
- The voiceover cast includes Louis Ferreria, Peter New, Kelly Metzger, Mark Acheson, and Maryke Hendrikse.
THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE:
- I realize that young viewers will not care about the things I’m going to mention here in this section! They’ll generally be entertained for 75 minutes, although I don’t think they’ll be riveted to the story. It seems more like a movie that just plays on TV in the background while kids play with toys in the room.
- Some of the editing, especially at the beginning, made me really dizzy! The camera scanned scenes of digital images too quickly. Am I just getting old or something? Kids might feel like they’re on a roller coaster.
- I was bored within minutes because the characters just aren’t compelling.
- There are some visual, spoken, and text jokes that young kids simply won’t understand.
- Having a sophisticated British accent for a sloth seemed like an odd choice. He was dressed like the evil emperor from Star Wars. Come on! Everyone knows sloths are super cute and awesome.
- At the 25-minute mark, all of a sudden, the movie turns into a musical. There are 3 musical numbers in the movie. Unfortunately, none of the songs are very good or memorable.
TIPS FOR PARENTS:
- Burping for laughs
- Animal characters in perilous situations
- Destruction
- The vocabulary is too advanced for young audiences, which is the target audience. For example, does your kid know what “obtuse” or “porcine” mean?
- Bullies
THEMES:
- Persistence to solve a problem
- Thinking outside the box
- Friendship
- Working together
- Sacrifice for the good of others
- Courage
FUNNY LINES:
- “You should always trust your better judgment.” – Peanut “Then I’d be wrong.” – Uncle Monikey
- “I’ll have you know that figure of speech is offensive and entirely accurate.” – Peanut
- It’s days like this that give days like this a bad reputation.” – Peanut
INTERESTING LINES:
- “It’s not what the guy does but how he does it that counts.” – girl bunny
