MOVIE TITLE: The Hunt
RATING: R
LENGTH: 1 hour, 30 minutes
Movie Review Mom GRADE: D for Dark and Disgusting humor
IN A NUTSHELL:
The opening of this quirky horror tells you instantly this movie is going to be different. It’s a bloody battle between the liberal left “godless elite” and the conservative right that Hillary Clinton calls the “deplorables.” This is NOT something we need to watch during this Coronavirus when we so desperately need to pull together and show compassion for the greater good.
It’s a blood-fest draped in political extremism and hatred. Yes, it’s satire. I get it. I just didn’t like it.
This over-the-top movie was going to be released many months ago but postponed because of mass shootings. Little did Blumhouse and Universal Studios know that when they released it in March that a world pandemic would hit and no one would see this anyway.
TIPS FOR PARENTS:
- This is a terribly violent movie that kids should not watch.
- Profanity, including 14,780 F-bombs and other crude language.
- Lots of bloody violence with complete disregard for human life.
- Dead body count = 22 (23 if you count Orwell the pig)
- The movie has an underlying message from Orwell’s Animal Farm George Orwell – Large Print Edition. You’re better off reading the actual book than watching this movie.
THEMES:
- Political extremism
- Female empowerment
- Hatred
- Prejudice
- Rich vs. poor
- Outrage gone crazy
- Victimizing political ideology
THINGS I LIKED:
- Betty Gilpin is outstanding, an equal match for Hillary Swank.
- Non-stop action.
- Lots of twists that make you wonder who the real protagonist is.
- Directed by Craig Zobel, the movie pokes fun at those on both sides of the political aisle. You’ll be offended no matter what your political ideologies are.
- It’s definitely bold.
- There is humor. It’s very dark and offensive, but it’s there.
THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE:
- It’s extremely polarizing and will make people on both sides angry.
- So violent, bloody, and disgusting.
FUNNY LINES:
* “Will there be sugar after the rebellion?” – Ma (Amy Madigan)
- “He’s a monster. He probably uses the N word.” – Pop (Reed Birney)
- “I’m not going to apologize for caring.” – Ma (Amy Madigan)
