The Spy Who Dumped Me movie review

Movie Title:  The Spy Who Dumped Me Grade: C+ Rating: R, 116 minutes In a Nutshell:   Spoofing the title from the James Bond movie The Spy Who Loved Me, this film has reviews from people who absolutely hate it to those who think it’s awesome.  It’s a little of both for me.  Kate McKinnon is hilarious, as always, and is the one who makes this film watchable. This comedic spy buddy movie isn’t the best comedy or best spy movie or best buddy movie you’ve ever seen, but it’s still entertaining in moments. Tips for parents:
  • Lots of violence, explosions, destruction
  • Bloody, gory deaths with blood splatters
  • Someone flips the bird.
  • Lots of profanity and F-bombs.
  • Some inappropriate humor for children.
  • Some shocking, full-on, frontal male nudity.  Why?  It didn’t add to the humor at all.
  • Talk of pre-marital relations
  • Dishonesty.  Duh….spy movie.
Uplifting theme:
  • “Women, you are incredible and I want you to own it.” –  Morgan (Kate McKinnon)
  • Female empowerment
  • Friendship
  • Loyalty
  • Self-respect

Things I liked:
  • Keep watching as the credits roll at the end for more funny clips.
  • You get to see several beautiful European cities.
  • Mila Kunis’ character is an American who can’t read the signs written in Russian when she’s in the subway in Russia, but in real life, Russian is her native tongue!
  • It was good to see Gillian Anderson from The X-Files in something again.
  • Justin Theroux does a good job as Drew and Sam Heughan keeps you guessing.
Things I didn’t like:
  • There is a scene in the trailer, which never appears in the actual movie.
  • It’s pretty dumb.
  • I hate it when women base their self-esteem on whether or not a man loves them.
  • It’s hard to take Mila Kunis seriously when she tries to pretend she’s just an ordinary girl.  She’s gorgeous.
Funny lines:
  • “Women can be terrorists too.  We can do anything we put our minds to.” – Morgan (Kate McKennon)
  • “Cheesecake Factory.  OMG.  Dostoyevsky wrote that menu.” – Morgan  (My favorite line of the movie, because it’s so true!  ha ha)
