MOVIE TITLE:     Last Seen Alive

This mystery thriller releases on June 3, 2022.

RATING:  R

LENGTH:  1 hour 35 minutes

IN A NUTSHELL:

The story centers on Will Spann (played by Gerard Butler), who is driving his soon-to-be ex-wife Lisa (played by Jaimie Alexander) to her parents’ home when she mysteriously disappears without a trace during a stop at a gas station. A frantic Will engages the local police and Lisa’s parents in a desperate attempt to find her, but as time passes and suspicion falls on him, he must take matters into his own hands, delving into the town’s criminal underbelly while running from the authorities in a race against time to find Lisa.

To make things unnecessarily confusing, this movie is not related to the TV show of the same name.  It’s also being called “Chase.”  The film was directed by Brian Goodman with writing credits by Marc Frydman.

THINGS I LIKED:

  • It’s always fun to watch Gerard Butler get a bit unhinged and kick some bad-guy butt.  He does a great job playing the Everyman.  He seems to give it his all, and his charming Scottish accent peeks out a time or two during the film.
  • I always get a kick out of vigilante justice in movies.
  • The tension and the mystery build, along with the musical score and stakes.

THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE:

  • It’s really hard to cheer for the wife who seems super selfish and has proven to be unfaithful.
  • The timeline bounces around a little bit to provide a backstory about the couple’s failing marriage.

TIPS FOR PARENTS:

  • Violence with various weapons, as well as hand-to-hand combat
  • We see drugs being made and used
  • Profanity, including F-bombs
  • People in perilous situations
  • People get beat up and bloodied
  • You see a man in his white-tighties

THEMES:

  • Marriage
  • Honesty & truth
  • Kidnapping
  • Criminals
  • Police work
  • Greed

FUNNY LINES:

None.  It’s a pretty dramatic movie.

INTERESTING LINES:

  • “Some real salts of the earth, there, eh?” –  Will Spann  (Gerard Butler)
