Infinite Storm movie review

MOVIE TITLE:     Infinite Storm

This harrowing and dramatic film is now available on Video on Demand

RATING:    R

LENGTH:      1 hour 38 minutes

IN A NUTSHELL:

When a climber gets caught in a blizzard, she encounters a stranded stranger and must get them both down the mountain before nightfall.

This dramatic action film is based on a true story.

THINGS I LIKED:

  • This movie had me at Naomi Watts.  I love how she is up for anything in her movies.  She’s a fierce, wonderful actress.  She makes acting look effortless.  For example, I loved it when she was just brushing her teeth and staring off into nothing, like many of us have done from time to time.  Everything she does looks like real life.  She also helped produce the movie.
  • Stunning cinematography.
  • Shout-out to nurses!  Naomi Watts plays a rescue nurse in the film.  I teach classes at Arizona College of Nursing and my twin sister is a Nurse Practitioner!
  • In the last 10 minutes of the movie, we learn what the title of the movie truly means.
  • At the end of the movie, we get to see a photo of the real Pam the movie was based on and learn what she has done after the events of this story took place.

THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE:

  • The plot needs more than just people trying to survive, right?  There’s a little bit of depth there, but it doesn’t really unfold until the last 5 minutes of the movie.
  • I have hobbies that won’t kill me.  Just saying…I absolutely understand the draw to spend time in nature, but you have to be smart about it.  She ignored all of the warning signs and put herself in grave danger.
  • Sometimes, the snow looked fake.
  • The guy Naomi Watts’ character tries to rescue is a complete tool.  He wore tennis shoes on a mountain in the snow and constantly gives up, crying “We’re going to die!”  No spoilers, but he does other “tooly” things too.

TIPS FOR PARENTS:

  • Some profanity, including F-bombs
  • People in perilous situations.
  • We see a fully naked woman from the front, side, and back.

THEMES:

  • Tenacity & perseverance
  • Hope
  • Search and rescue workers
  • Heroism
  • Mindset
  • Love and loss
  • It only takes one person to change someone’s life.

FUNNY LINES:

None.  This is a serious drama.

INTERESTING LINES:

  • “It’s cheaper than therapy and the mountains don’t talk back.” –   Pam   (Naomi Watts)
  • “We need the possibility of escape as surely as we need hope.” – Pam  (Naomi Watts)
  • “Even in the storm, even in the pain, there is so much beauty.    The whole universe appears as an infinite storm of beauty.” –  Pam  (Naomi Watts)
