Long shot movie review

MOVIE TITLE:   Long Shot

RATING: R

LENGTH: 2 hours, 5 minutes

Movie Review Mom GRADE:  D

IN A NUTSHELL:  Garbage. This political satire/rom-com is over-the-top and ridiculous.  So, do you think sloppy, stoner Seth rises to the level of classy Charlize or does he drag her into the Molly gutter?  Yep, you guessed it.  So, if you think that sounds hilarious, you’ll like this movie. If that sounds really dumb and juvenile, skip this one.

TIPS FOR PARENTS:

  • This is NOT a movie for children or for anyone with good taste.
  • Lots of profanity and about a million F-bombs.
  • Anti-semitic
  • Alcohol
  • Drugs
  • Crude jokes
  • Talk of intimate relationships and a sex scene with clothes (mostly) on.
  • Disgusting masturbation scene and jokes.
  • Sexism
  • Racism

THEMES:

  • Environmentalism
  • Political and religious intolerance
  • Judging others
  • Compromise
  • Opposites attract

THINGS I LIKED:

 * The talented cast includes the gorgeous and talented Charlize Theron, funnyman Seth Rogen,  handsome Alexander Skarsgard, friendly Lisa Kudrow, and legendary Andy Serkis.  I love June Diane Raphael when she plays a snarky heavy-hitter like in the TV show Grace And Frankie Season 1.

  • Boyz II Men sings at an event in the movie.
  • Micro-napping.  ha ha
  • Aurora Borealis!  Yes!  That’s been on my Bucket List for a long time.  I’m hoping to see it next year in Iceland.
  • Fans of Game of Thrones: Season 7 (DVD Box Set)will get a kick out of the dragon shout-out in the movie and how it’s used as a turning point for one of the characters.
  • Lil Yachty has a cameo.

THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE:

  • Seth Rogen plays the same character in every movie, complete with marijuana and potty mouth.
  • Seth’s character is just gross and yet he acts like he has the moral high ground.
  • Trashy
  • What’s the opposite of clever, smart humor?  This.
  • What is the opposite of virtue, modesty, and decency in film?  This.

FUNNY LINES:

  • “Is he high?” –  Charlotte Field (Charlize Theron talking about Seth Rogen’s character)
  • “He is high, but he’s also stupid.” – Maggie Millikin (June Diane Raphael)

INTERESTING LINES:

* “Just because you star in movies doesn’t mean you’re a movie star.” –    (Seth Rogen)
