Movie Review Mom GRADE:  B

IN A NUTSHELL:

The story who is facing his imminent death attempts to make amends and a human connection with people in his life that he had created distance with after a tragedy that happened in his life 10 years prior.

The film was directed by Trevor St. John who also stars in it.  Screenwriting credits go to Trevor St. John, Brett Clothier-Sharman, and Graham Sharman.

THINGS I LIKED:

  • Trevor St. John is absolutely fantastic in this.
  • We hear the voices of other actors and see a couple of others but, for the most part, the camera is exclusively on just one person.
  • We hear some beautiful music at the very beginning and end.
  • The movie was filmed in beautiful Spokane, Washington.
  • The story is a simple, slow observation of someone’s acceptance of his impending death, as he tries to make sense of his mistakes.

THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE:

  • The movie is very slow-moving and introspective.  Some viewers will be very bored by that.
  • The ending is a little big ambiguous.
  • It’s sad to see someone waste time with regrets when they could have taken action earlier, especially when it comes to relationships.

TIPS FOR PARENTS:

  • Kids will be completely bored.
  • Talk of death of a young son
  • Talk of assisted suicide

THEMES:

  • Love and loss
  • Grief
  • The desire to make a difference in our life
  • Connection
  • Life and death
  • Regrets
  • Guilt
  • Redemption
  • Hard conversations
  • Assisted suicide

FUNNY LINES:

  • None.  This is a very serious drama.

INTERESTING LINES:

  • “Focus on the gifts of the good days.” – Christian neighbor
  • “There’s always hope for happiness to reach you.” – Christian neighbor
  • “God is love and He already forgave me.” – Christian neighbor
  • “I wish I…I have many regrets.” –   (Trevor St. John)
