IN A NUTSHELL:

Tinsel Town is a cozy, feel-good Christmas movie that blends romance, small-town charm, and a touch of holiday nostalgia. When big-city ambitions collide with the magic of a town that fully embraces the spirit of Christmas, characters are forced to decide what really matters—success or connection, image or authenticity. It’s predictable in the best Hallmark-style way and perfect for viewers who want comfort, cheer, and a warm message during the holiday season.

The film was directed by Chris Foggin. Writing credits go to Piers Ashworth, Adam Brown, and Jake Brunger.

TIPS FOR PARENTS:

This is a very safe holiday pick for families. There’s mild romantic tension, a few emotional moments, and brief discussions of career stress, but nothing inappropriate. No language concerns, no violence, and nothing that would make parents uncomfortable watching with kids.

THEMES:

  • The importance of community
  • Choosing people over ambition
  • Rediscovering joy and tradition
  • Second chances
  • The true meaning of Christmas

THINGS I LIKED:

  • I’ve been a huge Kiefer Sutherland for many years. He was fantastic in the 24 TV series. That being said, it might take people a while to get used to him in a rom-com like this one.
  • I also really like Rebel Wilson in the Pitch Perfect franchise. I love those movies too much. Similarly, it might take viewers a minute to accept her as a serious Englishwoman in this role.
  • It’s always good to see Derek Jacobi in anything.
  • The festive setting in the small town feels genuinely Christmassy, with twinkling lights and cozy visuals. The movie was filmed in Knaresborough, North Yorkshire, England. Another Christmas movie was shot there: A Very British Christmas.
  • American audiences get to learn what a British “panto” is all about. I had no idea and would love to see one someday! It looks like a lot of fun.
  • Danny Dyer has already shot two Christmas movies this year! In addition to this film, you can also see Danny in Christmas Karma.
  • A clear, uplifting message about slowing down and valuing relationships is always welcome, especially at Christmas.
  • Gentle humor that doesn’t rely on sarcasm or crudeness is refreshing.
  • A comforting, predictable structure that makes it easy to relax and enjoy while you’re wrapping presents for the holidays.

THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE:

  • I didn’t buy the romantic leads or their quick romance for no reason. The casting seemed odd, and I didn’t feel any chemistry between them.
  • While I really do like Rebel Wilson, her British accent was not good, and she certainly doesn’t move like a dance teacher or choreographer.
  • The storyline follows familiar holiday-movie beats, so there are very few surprises.
  • Some supporting characters could have been more developed.
  • The conflict resolves a bit too neatly and quickly.

FUNNY LINES:

  • “People don’t want to hire you. There is one thing: theater in England!”
