MOVIE TITLE: W.W.J.R. – When Will Jesus Return

This fun-loving Christian comedy is now available on Amazon at https://amzn.to/4bJUr3k

RATING: TV-PG

LENGTH: 2 hours 4 minutes

IN A NUTSHELL:

This faith-based comedy follows Jesus as He returns to Earth and unexpectedly befriends Laz Young, an out-of-work social media consultant and web designer struggling to find purpose after a difficult breakup. Believing he has discovered a way to spread faith and positivity through modern technology, Laz creates the concept for Faith Book Friends.com, a platform designed to unite believers everywhere. With the help of a local church and its pastor, the dynamic duo sets out to revitalize the community, showing that even the smallest acts of kindness and belief can spark meaningful change in a disconnected digital world.

The film was both written and directed by Stevie Fernandez. Already, the movie has won “Best Comedy” by the Chicago Indie Film Award.

TIPS FOR PARENTS:

  • Themes of romantic breakups and overcoming personal rejection.

  • Inspirational Christian messages regarding community involvement, church revitalization, and personal confidence.

  • Comedic depictions of sacred themes are handled with family-friendly respect.

THEMES:

  • Hope
  • Faith
  • modern digital connection vs. spiritual isolation
  • second chances
  • identity
  • forgiveness
  • and learning to overcome self-doubt through faith

THINGS I LIKED:

  • The warm, approachable buddy-comedy dynamic between Zoltan Kaszas (playing a cheerful, comedic Jesus) and J. Tate Silver (as the down-on-his-luck Laz) is charming.

  • It’s a refreshing focus and idea on utilizing technology and social media for proactive goodwill and connecting lonely believers.

  • There is a sweet message that you don’t need to look for massive, explosive events to see God’s work; it is often found in the smallest daily miracles.

  • I absolutely loved it when Camille and Haley sang…twice! What sweet voices and spirits they have! I’d love to see Mark Sherwood create a movie around them so we can hear more of their music. Invite me to be in the film as a fan sitting in the front row! You can find these cute sisters in real life at www.camilleandhaley.com
  • We have seen many of the same cast members in other Mark Sherwood movies. He seems to invite a lot of his community to be a part of his projects. I love that!
  • While the movie is a low-budget project, it has heart and will make you laugh, smile, and feel good in the end.
  • The target audience is definitely Christian, but non-believers just might get a kick out of it.

THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE:

  • At over two hours long, the comedic pacing occasionally stretches thin in the second act. Some scenes drag longer than they need to.

  • Some of the specific web platform features and dialogue can feel slightly simplified for seasoned tech users.

  • Some of the cast members are natural actors. A few others are pretty wooden.
  • I hadn’t seen the trailer, so the title made me assume the movie was going to be about Jesus’ Second Coming. So that you know, it’s not.

FUNNY LINES:

  • “I’m just an out-of-work web designer, not a miracle worker.” — Laz

  • “That’s fine. I’ve got the miracle part completely covered.” — Jesus

  • “She’s a Millennial. You’re going to lose her interest to the internet in 5 seconds.” – Jesus

INTERESTING LINES:

  • “You put too much faith in others, when your own faith belongs in Jesus, to fulfill your destiny.”

  • “At its core, W.W.J.R. is about hope, connection, and learning to believe in yourself again.”
