IN A NUTSHELL:
The Family Plan 2 brings back Mark Wahlberg as a former elite assassin turned suburban dad who once again must protect his family when his dangerous past resurfaces. This sequel leans even harder into fast-paced action, comedy, and chaotic family dynamics. While it’s over-the-top and sometimes predictable, it delivers solid entertainment, laugh-out-loud moments, and positive messages about family loyalty, sacrifice, and identity.
The film was directed by Simon Cellan Jones. Writing credits go to David Coggeshall.

TIPS FOR PARENTS:
- Violent action
- Explosions and lots of destruction
- Fight sequences
- Various weapons are used
- Some profanity
- Some crude jokes and suggestive humor.
- People are in constant danger
- While lighter in tone than many action films, it is best for teens and adults, not younger children.

THEMES:
-
Family loyalty
-
Redemption
-
Sacrifice
-
Honesty
-
Protecting loved ones
-
Identity
-
Trust
- Family first!

THINGS I LIKED:
-
Mark Wahlberg has great comedic timing mixed with action-hero energy. He’s always fun to watch in any of his films. In the first movie and this one, he sells used (or as his character says, “certified pre-owned”) cars. In real life, he actually owns some Chevrolet dealerships!
- Michelle Monaghan is gorgeous as always.
- Fans of Game of Thrones will be excited to see Kit Harington in this.
- The kids are played again by Zoe Colletti and Van Crosby. (In the first movie, “Van” was his character’s new identity on the passport for Canada.) Max is played by twin brothers Peter and Theodore Lindsey. The story has family chemistry and funny sibling moments.
-
There are some creative and even funny action sequences.
-
Like the first film, there is a lighthearted tone that keeps things fun instead of dark.
-
We get to spend time in lovely London and gorgeous France! I love getting to travel in movies.

THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE:
-
The first movie had a lot more humor, which balanced nicely with the action sequences. In this film, there is more action, which causes the film to lose some of the charm we saw in the first.
-
Fans of the first film in this franchise might be disappointed. In fact, both critics and audiences have rated this film extremely low. Despite my low score, I did enjoy it. Just lower your expectations, and you’ll probably get a kick out of it, for what it is.
-
Very predictable storyline
-
Over-the-top action that sometimes stretches believability
-
A few jokes that feel unnecessary or crude
-
Some pacing issues in the middle
