The 92nd Academy Awards in 2020 presented some expected wins, but also a shocking one that made history! Parasite is the first foreign language film to win “Best Picture” at the Academy Awards. It’s a dark comedy thriller from South Korea. Their acceptance speech was almost cut short due to time, but Tom Hanks got the audience to cheer “Up! Up!” to get the stage crew to turn the lights back on so they could finish their speech and glory in their big moment.
What’s interesting is that the movie “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” won Best Picture during the Golden Globe Awards recently, and the film “1917” won Best Picture at the Critics Choice Awards.
All of the actors who won “Best” also won during those other award nights, so we weren’t surprised that they also earned the prestigious golden statue. Something that did shock and surprise audiences was a performance by Eminem, also known as Marshall Mathers. He won an Oscar 18 years ago, but didn’t attend or perform at that award ceremony, so this was a standing ovation moment.
