MOVIE TITLE:   Greenland                                                                       RELEASES in the USA September 25, 2020

RATING: PG-1M3

LENGTH: 1 hour, 59 minutes

Movie Review Mom GRADE:  B+

IN A NUTSHELL:
One of the best things about this movie is that, with the Coronavirus raging through the world still, this movie is still kind of fun to watch and puts our complaints of quarantine into perspective.  STXfilms brings us this action thriller directed by Ric Roman Waugh and starring Gerard Butler.

TIPS FOR PARENTS:

  • High body count
  • Some profanity
  • Some disturbing images of destruction

THEMES:

  • Family
  • Forgiveness
  • Survival
  • Life is precious.  Don’t ever take yours for granted.

THINGS I LIKED:

• Some viewers are saying this movie is more realistic than most end-of-the-world movies, making it scarier.
• Unexpected turn of events keeps things interesting.
• The comet fragments looked cool.
•  Assuming they really filmed Greenland, it was really beautiful to see.

  • Some of the special effects are very good.
  • The human element

SURVIVAL TIPS:

• Have a 72-hour kit ready to go in a backpack NOW. No, I’m not saying a meteor is going to crash in the earth, but there are plenty of other emergency scenarios while you’ll need one. Keep one in each car AND have one for each person in your family ready to go in your garage or a closet. For a great list I put together, email trina@moviereviewmom.com
• Don’t waste your time packing a bunch of clothes. Pack supplies, food, medicine, identification, and whatever supplies you need for family members (diapers, etc).
• Always keep at least ¼ tank of gas in your car at all times. Never let it run empty.
• Don’t expect the government to save you.
• People are going to panic and be irrational, so stay away from crowds and stores. You need to have extra supplies BEFORE an emergency hits.
• Keep an extra cell phone battery with you if possible.
• Always have a Plan B.

THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE:

  • A lot of scenes are dark or at night, which will make watching the movie on small devices difficult once it goes to streaming.
  • Some bad CGI at moments.
  • Most of the impressive action can be seen in the trailer.
