Christopher Robin takes you back to your childhood

Movie Title:  Christopher Robin Grade:  B Rating: PG, 1 hour 44 minutes In a Nutshell: Sweet and innocent, this adaptation of Christopher Robin and The Many Adventures Of Winnie The Pooh is family friendly, filled with child-like wonder and has a powerful lesson for all of us. Timed perfectly for the 30th anniversary of author A.A. Milne’s book, I think this movie would have made him proud. While we recently saw Goodbye Christopher Robin last year, this story is very different.  They’re both fine films that will take you back to your childhood. Tips for parents:
  • It’s charming for parents and kids.
  • At 104 minutes, this is the longest Winnie the Pooh ever made.
  • A young girl runs away from home alone.
  • It’s very sweet with no profanity.
Uplifting theme:
  • Work/Life balance
  • Family first
  • Friendship
  • The importance of keeping wonder and imagination in your life.
  • “When you do nothing, it leads to the very best something.” – Christopher Robin & Winnie the Pooh

Things I liked:
  • Cute animation
  • Beautiful English countryside and landscapes.
  • I love Ewan McGregor in everything he does.  Once a Jedi, always a Jedi.
  • There is a fantastic book called The Tao of Pooh that makes you realize how brilliant Winnie the Pooh characters really re.
  • It’s melancholy and inspiring at the same time.
  • Jim Cummings voices Winnie the Pooh and Tigger, just as he has done since 1989.
  • The costume designers used the original Ernest Shepard illustrations .
  • Brad Garrett voices Eeyore.  This is the 15th time his voice talent has been used in a Disney movie.  He had previously done some Winnie the Pooh CD’s back in the 1990’s.
  • The movie was dedicated to Johann Johannsson, who died right before he was set to score the music for the film.
  • It’s simple and old-fashioned, a nice break from the high tech, CGI superhero movies of today.
Things I didn’t like:
  • Odd, quirky dialogue.
  • Believe it or not, this movie has been banned in China because so many people think the president, Xi Jinping, looks like Pooh and they poked fun of him on social media.
  • Winnie the Pooh’s face seemed a little pointed or something, like it needed to be rounded out.
  • I wanted Tigger’s tail to be more brightly striped like in the cartoons of my childhood.
Funny lines:
  • “What day is it?’ – Pooh
“It’s today.” – Christopher Robin “My favorite.” – Pooh
  • “Let’s address the Hefalump in the room.” – Giles’ father, president of the company
  • “Pooh, there’s more to life than balloons and honey.” – Christopher Robin
“Are you sure?” – Pooh
  • “It’s kind of you to kidnap me.” – Eeyore
