IN A NUTSHELL:

Directed by Marc Meyers, this thriller is a remake of the 2013 Italian movie also called Human Capital. Both stories are loosely based on a mystery novel by Stephen Amidon. Despite a great cast, the movie is mostly forgettable.

THINGS I LIKED:

The cast is solid and includes Marisa Tomei, Liev Schreiber, Peter Sarsgaard, Maya Hawke, Alex Wolff, and Betty Gabriel. Speaking of Maya Kawke, did you know her parents are Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman? I had never seen her act in anything, although she was in the BBC adaptation of Little Women (DVD), as well as in the popular Netflix series Stranger Things season 3 2019. Her parents should be proud.
I liked how the director gives you snippets that slowly fit together. I thought the non-linear method was an effective way to tell a story, albeit a bit confusing at first.
It was fascinating to watch how everyone was affected by the various events and see things unfold according to their own perspective.

THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE:

Some people will be confused by the time line jumping around and around.
The mysterious nature of the movie was compelling, yet the resolution wasn’t as satisfying as it should have been.
It’s hard to really like any of the characters.
While I enjoyed the non-linear storytelling, I readily admit that it was a bit jarring at times because you think you’re investing yourself in the protagonist, only to find out that he/she isn’t the protagonist.
It would have made the story even better to learn more about the cyclist and discover how his life was intertwined with one of the other characters.
