Quarantine For Two movie review

posted in: Comedy, Romance | 2

MOVIE TITLE:   Quarantine For Two

This cute rom-com is currently available on Amazon and will hit theaters just in time for Valentine’s Day on February 11, 2022 in select theaters.

It’s a perfect date-night movie.

RATING:  PG

LENGTH:      1 hour 25 minutes

IN A NUTSHELL:

A quick-spreading virus has shut down the world. But when Kenzie and Chase connect in the unlikeliest of ways, they are faced with a perplexing question: how does dating work when you have to stay six feet apart?

On a personal note, I adore director Kels Goodman and his wife.  I always want his films to be successful.  I tried very hard to review his new movie without bias.  Be sure to check out my interview with him on my Movie Review Mom YouTube channel!

THINGS I LIKED:

  • It’s extremely difficult to pull off a cast of only two people in a movie or on stage, but this movie did a great job.
  • I really enjoyed Mason D. Davis as Chase.  He appeared very natural on-screen and exactly like some guys I’ve known.  His performance was realistic and I laughed out loud when he first walked into his house and flipped off his shoes.  If you loved him, you can get a double dose of him as twins in the movie Identical Love
  • I had never seen Whitney Palmer in anything before.  She’s lovely as Kenzie and also seemed like girls I’ve known in real life, so I’m sure we’ll see a lot more of her to come.
  • Cute movie poster.
  • Watching their creative online dates gave me some ideas of things I could do with my husband when one of us is out of town.  I especially got a kick out of the fun scavenger hunt.
  • There’s a comment about the street value of toilet paper during the quarantine that made me laugh out loud.
  • The banter of the couple is entertaining and felt real.
  • There are little details that make the story and scenes believable, such as featuring the mistakes a cell phone writes when listening to voice commands, and showing them do everyday tasks like laundry, gardening, and cooking.
  • I appreciated that one of the characters was shown as an “essential” worker with great sensitivity to being around people who could expose her and her patients to Covid.
  • Life isn’t all romance and roses, so I was glad that some challenges were illustrated, especially ones that the couple would have to work through together to progress their relationship.
  • When I got to the scene where one of the characters was eating a bowl of popcorn, I actually put the press screener on hold that the director gave me so that I could go whip up a batch of my own to eat!  (Snackage not required to enjoy the movie.)
  • I was impressed that Kenzie asked him what he needed during a particular phone call: to vent or be distracted.  Often, we assume what people need but we’re wrong.
  • The film does a great job illustrating the awkwardness of dating and getting to know someone.
  • I always appreciate a good, clean film.  Yay, no profanity or inappropriate scenes!
  • Although the director is Christian, this is not one of those cheesy Christian films that bang you over the head with religious sermons.  It is family-friendly, sweet, and clean.

THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE:

  • How is it a bachelor has decorated his home way nicer than a girl?  ha ha
  • Sometimes, you can hear the hollowness of the room when people talk, as if it were filmed in someone’s real apartment rather than a sound studio.

TIPS FOR PARENTS:

  • There is a lot of texting, so viewers have to read the screen.
  • Talk of death.
  • Young kids will be bored because it’s about adults talking.

THEMES:

  • Quarantine during the current pandemic
  • Guilt
  • Loss
  • Creativity
  • Romance
  • Relationships
  • Truth
  • Boundaries
  • Second chances & taking chances

FUNNY LINES:

* “I hate me.” – Chase   (Mason D. Davis)

INTERESTING LINES:

  • “I know I’m a failure in a lot of areas of my life but I don’t need to be reminded.” –  Kenzie  (Whitney Palmer)
  • “Defining moments aren’t always pretty.  In fact, most of them are once you’ve hit rock bottom and have nowhere else to go.” – Chase  (Mason D. Davis)
