IN A NUTSHELL:  This movie was not what I expected.  It will catch you off guard.  You can say the trailers are misleading or else you can enjoy the twist.  It has been getting terrible reviews, but I kind of liked this noir fish tale. Serenity (2019) by the way, is the name of the boat in the movie.

TIPS FOR PARENTS:

• Profanity
• Pre-marital hanky-panky with some skin and sound effects.
• You see a naked man from the rear. Later, you see a naked woman from the rear.
• Talk of prostitutes
• Talk of PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder)
• Abuse

THEMES:

• Persistence
• Right vs. wrong
• Family relationships
• 
• THINGS I LIKED:

• I really like Anne Hathaway and she’s good in this film, as always. The last time she and Matthew McConaughey were together in a film was Interstellar, which I also really liked.
• Also great actors in the film were Jason Clarke and Djimon Hounsou.
• Fans of Mathew McConaughey will be happy to know that he takes off his shirt, of course.  You’ll actually see his entire backside, if you must know.
• In case you’re wondering, the movie was filmed in Mauritius.

THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE:

• There are some things that really don’t make sense if you think about it.  Try not to think about it.
• I got to meet the lovely Diane Lane several years ago at a conference we both attended. She was gracious and kind, allowing me to take a picture with her.  I was disappointed that she didn’t have a larger role in the movie.

“I’m just waiting for some things back home to lose their significance.” – Baker Dill (Matthew McConaughey)
