RATING:  R

IN A NUTSHELL:

This dark thriller features Cordelia (Antonia Campbell-Hughes), a young woman living in London, who meets her mysterious and alluring neighbor Frank (Johnny Flynn) for the first time but quickly becomes suspicious of his motives. With her twin sister away for the weekend, Cordelia is left alone and overcome with paranoia. She begins to unravel and sink back into past traumas the more that Frank tries to charm his way into her life, becoming a danger to herself and others.

The film was directed by Adrian Shergold (“Mad Dogs,” Pierrepoint: The Last Hangman, “Eureka Street”) and written by Adrian Shergold & Antonia Campbell-Hughes

THINGS I LIKED:

  • The cast stars includes Antonia Campbell-Hughes (3096 Days, Queen Marie-Antoinette in “Dangerous Liaisons”) who plays twins.  I’m a twin, so I’m always intrigued when twins are portrayed in movies.  She gave a strong performance of a truly shattered soul.
  • The cast also includes Johnny Flynn (, Clouds of Sils MariaBeast), Catherine McCormack (BraveheartSpy Game28 Weeks Later), along with cameo performances by Joel Fry (In The EarthYesterdayCruella), and Michael Gambon (Gosford ParkHarry Potter)
  • The movie is filmed in England, which is always fun to visit!
  • You get to hear some lovely

THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE:

  • The movie is VERY slow-moving with a VERY small payoff.
  • In the end, there are too many unanswered questions.  Ultimately, you don’t care though.
  • The music by Natalie Holt is more eery than the actual movie.
  • It’s hard to tell what’s real and what’s paranoia in many of the scenes.
  • There have been two movie posters for this film.  The newest one that shows a passionate embrace between two people is a bit deceiving.

TIPS FOR PARENTS:

  • Profanity, including F-bombs
  • Full-frontal nudity of a woman
  • Someone gets stabbed and you see lots of blood.

THEMES:

  • PTSD
  • Trust
  • Healing
  • Secrets
  • Paranoia

FUNNY LINES:

None.  This is a serious drama.

INTERESTING LINES:

  • “The way you dress tells people something about you.  I’d forgotten that.” – Cordelia/Caroline     (Antonia Campbell-Hughes)
  • “You’re just the same as me: half-living.” –  Cordelia/Caroline     (Antonia Campbell-Hughes)
