Falling for Christmas movie review

MOVIE TITLE:     Falling for Christmas movie review

This campy holiday movie is now available exclusively on Netflix.

RATING:    TV-PG

LENGTH:      1 hour 33 minutes

MOVIE REVIEW MOM GRADE:  B-

IN A NUTSHELL:

In the days leading up to Christmas, a young and newly engaged heiress experiences a skiing accident. After being diagnosed with amnesia, she finds herself in the care of the handsome lodge owner and his daughter.

If you’re prepared for a ridiculously goofy movie with Christmas spirit, you’ll get a kick out of this rom-com.

THINGS I LIKED:

  • It’s great to see Lindsay Lohan again after her three-year break.  Rumor has it that it was her idea to sing Jingle Bell Rock in the movie as a wink to her fans of her movie Mean Girls.  Lindsay’s sister, Ali Lohan, has a cameo as Lindsay’s stylist.
  • Watching this cheeky movie will make you wish you could go on a ski vacation with all of the rich, beautiful people.
  • It was nice to see Chord Overstreet again.  I haven’t seen him do anything since Glee, when he was added on in season 4.
  • Another face I was happy to see was Olivia Perez.  She’s completely adorable.  I first noticed her in the musical In the Heights where she played the daughter of Anthony Ramos.  For a minute, I thought she really was his daughter because she looks so much like him!
  • I laughed when Lindsay’s character hits the TV remote control and we hear the Netflix sound logo.  The TV instantly starts playing a scene from the Netflix movie Castle Christmas, which is another cheesy, predictable, but cute Christmas movie from last year.
  • I laughed at the sight of Lindsay doing a spread-eagle to try to get the fitted sheet on a bed.  They really can be hard to get on sometimes.
  • Every comedy should have a blooper reel at the end of the movie during the rolling credits, don’t you think?  This one does!
  • It’s fun hanging out in a ski resort and cozy cabin in the snowy mountains.  That’s sure to put you in the holiday mood.
  • The humor is silly and super cheesy, but it’s still a lot of fun to relax, cuddle under a blanket, and watch this with your family.

THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE:

  • There are a lot of bad green-screen moments.
  • You can easily spot stuntwomen and stand-ins for Lindsay Lohan.  Even the last kissing scene showed a body double for Lindsay.
  • There’s an odd gay moment at the end that makes no sense.
  • Lindsay Lohan is 36 years old, but Chord Overstreet is 33.  She looks a LOT older than him and, sadly, they didn’t have much chemistry together.
  • Ultimately, there’s not a lot of rom or com in this romantic, Christmas comedy.

TIPS FOR PARENTS:

  • A girl falls off a mountain and gets hurt
  • Some kissing
  • Snobby rich people

THEMES:

  • Influencers
  • Amnesia
  • Miracles
  • Christmas
  • Being down-to-earth
  • Work

FUNNY LINES:

  • “What am I supposed to do with this?” – Tad Fairchild  (George Young)    “Hurl it at a squirrel.” – Ralph  (Sean Dillingham)

INTERESTING LINES:

  • “Christmas is a time for miracles.” –  Avy        (Olivia Perez)
  • “Sometimes we can’t rush things.” – Sierra Belmont     (Lindsay Lohan)
