MOVIE TITLE:     Planning On Forever

This romantic comedy is now available on DirecTV, UPTV, MUBI, and VOD.

RATING:    TV-G

LENGTH:      1 hour 30 minutes

MOVIE REVIEW MOM GRADE:  C+

IN A NUTSHELL:

Emily Tennant stars as Emma, a 30-year-old events planner with no time for love.  Her sister is getting married in only 6 weeks.  Emma agrees to step in and plan it herself with the help of Liam with whom she had a disastrous blind date years ago.

The movie was directed by Danny J. Boyle, and written by Hilty Bowen and Riley Scott.

THINGS I LIKED:

  • Good job with casting.  The mom and two sisters actually look like family.  They were played by Jocelyn Gauthier, Cory Hawkes, and Emily Tennant.
  • It’s cute that the main character repeats positive affirmations.  It’s a great habit!
  • All of the characters are sugary-sweet.
  • Everything is very cutesy and clean, making it a safe family-friendly movie.
  • Those planning weddings will appreciate the chaos and stress that often lead up to the big day.

THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE:

  • The dialogue is cliched, corny, and tired.
  • Everyone is so startled by everything.  For example, every time someone’s cell phone rings, the character is startled and says, “Oh!” dropping everything else.
  • Lots of exposition scenes.
  • In a movie like this, the woman is always critical, cranky, and skeptical, while the guy is fun-loving and charming.  Emily insists on being right about everything, which is super annoying.
  • It’s ridiculous that a corporate planner is completely frazzled and confused about planning a wedding.
  • Have you ever seen such a supportive, understanding boss like the one in this movie who always tells her employee to relax?  Yeah, neither have I.
  • What could have been an emotional moment between sisters in the film felt forced and fell flat.
  • No bridesmaids or groomsmen?  What a missed opportunity that could have provided some fun moments.
  • The final kiss didn’t have much spark, kind of like the entire movie.
  • What kind of sister dumps her entire wedding responsibilities on her sister?

TIPS FOR PARENTS:

  • Most kids will be completely bored.
  • No profanity.
  • An unmarried couple appears to be living together.

THEMES:

  • Second chances
  • Trust
  • Relationships
  • Weddings
  • New beginnings

FUNNY LINES:

None.  The movie is supposed to be part comedy, part romance, but there isn’t anything laugh-out-loud funny.

INTERESTING LINES:

  • “You never want someone else to define your dreams for you.” – Nell  (Cory Hawkes)
  • “You have to leave room for spontaneity.” – Liam   (Alec Santos)       “Only if you leave room for a dictionary.” – Emma   (Emily Tennant)
  • “You can’t live your life afraid.” –   Miranda   (Jocelyn Gauthier)
