MOVIE TITLE:    The Curse of Bridge Hollow

This family-friendly Halloween movie is now available exclusively on Netflix.

RATING:    TV-14

LENGTH:      1 hour 29 minutes

MOVIE REVIEW MOM GRADE:     B+

IN A NUTSHELL:

A teenage girl, who accidentally releases an ancient and mischievous spirit on Halloween which causes decorations to come alive and wreak havoc, must team up with the last person she’d want to in order to save their town – her father.

The spooky Halloween flick was directed by Jeff Wadlow. The screenplay was written by Todd Berger and Robert Rugan based on the story by John R. Morey.

THINGS I LIKED:

  • Marlon Wayans headlines this frightfully fun Halloween special on Netflix.  He provides most of the comic relief and is also one of the producers.  His over-the-top performance is delightful and dependable.
  • Lauren Lapkus, John Michael Higgins, and Rob Riggle made me laugh every time they were on screen.  I always like them in anything they’re in.
  • The leading ladies (mother & daughter) are Kelly Rowland and Priah Ferguson.  The last time we saw Priah in something was in the popular TV show “Stranger Things.”
  • Creepy spiders. Ick!  Good special effects though!
  • Lots of goofy humor and slapstick gags.
  • The action is almost non-stop.
  • I loved the Lin Manuel Miranda “Hamilton” costume

THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE:

  • Some of the props and Halloween decorations that are turned alive look super fake.
  • It’s pretty silly and goofy but that’s what makes it a good Halloween choice for kids this year.

TIPS FOR PARENTS:

  • Some “mild” profanity
  • Some images may frighten young children.  The movie is probably best for ages 10 and up.
  • Bloodless Violence
  • Destruction and spooky mayhem
  • The dad tries to explain everything away with scientific facts.
  • A girl uses a Ouija app to communicate with a dead woman.

THEMES:

  • Halloween
  • Courage
  • Accepting change
  • Using science
  • Family
  • Friendship

FUNNY LINES:

  • “Just because it’s crazy doesn’t mean it can’t be explained.” –  Howard Gordon         (Marlon Wayans)
  • “This is so going on TikTok.” –     Ramona   (Abi Monterey)
