IN A NUTSHELL:

Three party-loving best friends set out to win a ski-movie competition.  The film was directed by Katie Burrell, who also stars in it.  She also co-wrote it with Andrew Ladd.

THINGS I LIKED:

  • We see some gorgeous snow, excellent skiers, snowmobiling, and snowboarders.
  • I hadn’t seen any of these young actors in anything before.  They did a great job and include Katie Burrell, Jadyn Wong, Chelsea Conwright, Evan Jonigkeit, and more.
  • Some of the dialogue is bitingly entertaining.
  • The film does a good job painting a picture of ski-town life.
  • I grew up going skiing with my family, so I was too young to be a part of the after-ski parties other than the clean ones we had with our family or ski club.  I miss those fun trips and haven’t gone skiing in way too many years between having babies or working too many hours.
  • I was surprised to see more skiers than snowboarders, especially with this younger generation that’s represented.
  • The bouncy music is fun and matches the energy of the story.

THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE:

  • First off, I wish I had the energy that all of these Gen Zer’s have in the film.  This movie made me feel really old.  Ha ha
  • One of the characters states that the girls are the foulest young women he has ever seen and wants to evict them.  Agreed.
  • Another character described the girls as acting like “juiced-up frat boys.”   Agreed.
  • We don’t get to see as much skiing as I assumed we would.
  • It felt like the movie was just a bunch of skiers doing crazy shenanigans and then they decided to offer a moral to the story in the end as a last-minute thought.

TIPS FOR PARENTS:

  • Talk and portrayal of unmarried sexual relationships
  • SO much alcohol and drunkenness
  • Lots of profanity and F-bombs
  • Lots of bad behavior, including theft, destruction of property
  • A nude guy jumps off a building but covers his private parts
  • Talk of drugs

THEMES:

  • Taking action on your dreams
  • Going for your dreams
  • Drifters
  • Showing support to your friends
  • Stuck but always moving
  • Self-limiting beliefs
  • Self-sabotage

FUNNY LINES:

  •  “Skiing can’t solve all of our problems.” –  Cleo  (Katie Burrell)
  • “I am starving…and not in a model way but a poor person’s way.” – Cleo  (Katie Burrell)”I just think quitting is a winning attitude.” – Gabe Paul  (Evan Jonigkeit)
  • “You’re too famous to yell.” – Cleo  (Katie Burrell)
  • “I’m a nobody.  Just ask anyone who’s a somebody.” – Cleo  (Katie Burrell)
  • “So, you just came skiing, hoping for a rom-com miracle?” – Cleo  (Katie Burrell)

INTERESTING LINES:

  •  “I’ll look like a loser!” – Cleo  (Katie Burrell)   “What are you: 14?  Who cares?” – Tina Gates  (Chelsea Conwright)
  •  “Know your worth.” – Cleo  (Katie Burrell)
  • “It’s not the town that’s holding me back.  It’s me.  I need to change.” – Cleo (Katie Burrell)
