MOVIE TITLE:   WILDCAT

Available in select theaters on April 23 and on Digital on Demand April 27, 2021

RATING:  R

LENGTH: 1 hour 33 minutes

IN A NUTSHELL:

This dramatic movie is about an ambitious reporter stationed in the Middle East who is taken captive after her convoy is ambushed. She is confronted by the trauma of her past and must find a way to bring down the militants who incarcerated her.  The powerful film is written and directed by Jonathan W. Stokes.

THINGS I LIKED:

  • Georgina Campbell is fantastic. She was only 16 years old when she was “discovered” on the streets of London!
  • Lots of tension and suspense
  • The movie is divided into sections with Title Cards that intrigue and prepare you for what’s to come next.
  • Some beautiful use of light with creative camera angles.
  • I couldn’t tell when the prisoners were lying or telling the truth.  Were they broken or not?  It made me wonder how I would survive under similar circumstances.
  • Almost the entire movie is filmed in one room, always an impressive and difficult feat.

THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE:

  • The pacing is a little bit slow.
  • Sometimes it’s hard to hear what people are saying when they whisper and you wonder what important dialogue you might have missed.
  • For viewers who get frustrated by inaccuracies in films, don’t look at the tank in the movie poster. It’s a German Tiger tank from WWII and wouldn’t be seen on a modern battlefield.
  • It’s exhausting to watch someone get tortured over and over again.

 TIPS FOR PARENTS:

  • Portrayal of physical and emotional torture
  • Profanity and F-bombs
  • You hear Arabic spoken with no subtitles

THEMES:

  • Patriotism
  • Hope
  • Loyalty
  • Freedom
  • Sacrifice
  • Power

INTERESTING LINES:

  • “If you act like a victim, people will victimize you.” –  Abu Khalid (Mido Hamada)
  • “It could have been worse.” –  Khadija Young  (Georgina Campbell)    “How?” – Luke  (Luke Benward)      “It could have been me.” –   Khadija Young  (Georgina Campbell)
  • “Do you know what the most important thing is in life?” –  Abu Khalid  (Mido Hamada)    “Freedom?” – Khadija Young (Georgiana Campbell)    “Perseverance.” – Abu Khalid
  • “Time is on my side, not yours.” –  Abu Khalid
  • “I don’t want to just sneak away.  I want to nail these guys.” – Abu Khalid
  • “You can take more.  There’s more in you.” – Khadija Young
  • “If you believe you’re a victim, you’re powerless.” – Abu Khalid
